Spencer for a girl?

OMG No!
For a boy Spencer is a horrible name and for a girl it's just awful and will cause her unnecessary upset for sure,why would you want to do that....just to get that 'different and unusual' name? It isn't fair to her.

Reminds me of what my DM used to call a style of vest she wore. Almost certainly that's just my problem though!

Or Spencer Tracey ... we once had new neighbours with a boy called Spencer and a girl called Tracey. 'Ooh, he's one of my favourite actors', said DM. Blank looks... they'd never heard of him.

Anyhow... don't think it's a great name for a girl, but it's made me want to watch some old films.

I guess Spencer for a girl is an American name. Doesn't work in the UK- definitely sounds like a boys name. Americans like surnames as first names - Taylor, Kendal, Harper, Morgan.

It’s a boys name, very clearly a boys name. She’s spend her whole life defending it and it’d be a pain in the arse

I love traditionally boys names on girls, but Spencer has to be one of the ugliest names I have heard in a long while.

I’ve taught a girl called Spenser (yes, with an ‘s’) but am not a fan.

Reminds me of PLL. It works in that, but I think a Spencer in the UK would always be assumed to be a boy.

Yep, I think I prefer it for a girl, it’s very dated for a boy, I’m 47 and had 3 in my school year.

I like it! And it's not such a new name either, I was in school with a girl called Spencer around 20+ years ago.

I don't think one US TV series is going to make any serious inroads in to how a name is seen in UK.
