Opinions on Clay for a boy? Is it too American??

My friend has a Clae and it's lovely. Really suits him. It's not a name I'd choose but I liked it when I heard it

Clayton is too of my boys list but shortened to Clay (one tree hill also 😁) got a DS called Grayson though and have had lots of stick it's too similar.
DH has suddenly gone off it so it might not get used by us after all.

My dsil named her ds a very American sounding name and no one else really likes it. I think it sounds strange in our local accent plus she has no American connection. Her and bil just liked the name, everyone else thinks it's weird.

Go with a name you love by all means but if you'll find it annoying when others ask you why you named your ds that name, then steer clear.

personally really don't like it but choosing names is a v personal thing

makes me think ; mud; bricks sand. similar words

But do you like what it means? When I hear Clay I just think of lumps of wet greyish clay. On the plus side, it is ready to be moulded into anything ("did I request thee, Maker, of my clay to make me man?"). But on the downside it's grey, heavy, wet, shapeless...
