Cunning Plan

Right, so my mil has been happily announcing that she doesn't like our choice of names; Angus and Scarlett. I'm pretty frustrated by it as she regularly tells the story of how her mil didn't like her choice of name and she didn't use it and has always been disappointed by that. So my mum suggested we throw her off the scent with some awful decoy names that we say we will be using, to the point where our actual names seem like a blessing. I'm thinking something very posh sounding like Bartholomew or Sebastian as she would really hate those. She thinks I'm posh so would probably believe them. Then, after using these for the entire pregnancy, a wee Angus or Scarlet would seem welcome! Any other suggestions for decoy names?...

Baldrick, Jesus, Gaylord or Colin.

We told everyone that DC1 would be Balthazar for a boy and Balthazara for a girl.
Not sure anyone believed us but it meant that they stopped asking!!

I can see that I’ve been beaten to it on the Baldrick/Bob suggestions! Grin

Watch out though OP - careful decoy choices needed as I actually like Sebastian and it would rather defeat the object if your MIL did.

How about suddenly expressing an interest in Greek or Roman mythology? (Castor or Pollux, Clytemnestra, Pelopia, Aerope, Romulus...)

AuntieStella · 25/10/2018 19:19

Given the thread title, it should be Sodoff for a boy and Bernard for a girl.

As that might be a little too transparent, try a shortlist of:

Bertha, Fanny, Gloria, Beryl, Beyoncé, Solange

Wayne, Tyrone, Chandler, Rollo, Aethelstan, Clovis

ProudThrilledHappy · 25/10/2018 19:18

I am similarly gutted this is not a Baldrick thread, but reckon it might make a good decoy.

“Yes MIL we have decided on Baldrick... if it’s a girl” Grin

Got to be Ptolemy and Agatha
