We've decided on Jasper and Grace as middle names and narrowed down our top three first names for each of them but we can't decide and their due in two weeks Halloween Confused

We already have two dc - Phoenix and Nova

Boy:

Sorry:
Ocean & Prince - no.
Pixie - no.
Lulu - at least it’s an actual name

TigerJae · 21/10/2018 18:25

As PPs have said having two boys called River and Phoenix is odd. Given River Phoenix was a person.
Lux was (is?) soap.

Ocean

chocolatefoxes · 21/10/2018 18:19

Boy:
Prince -dislike
Ocean -love
Ryver - like but only if spelt "River"

Girl:
Pixie - Very cute and I like it. Although it could be an issue if say she grows up to be very tall and not "pixie-like" as it were.
Lux - Nice unique name which has a nice meaning. Could be a pronounciation issue as some people might say "l-uh-x" and others might say "looks".
Lulu - Like this name but you may want to give her a longer name such as Luseane, Lucy, Lucia ect and then just call her Lulu.

Tightlippedmama · 21/10/2018 17:32

I taught a boy called Reeve. Nice name. Nice boy.

Lulus I have known were, in full. Louella, Elizabeth and Lucy.

eachtigertires · 21/10/2018 14:34

I really like Lux for a girl but none of the others, sorry.

Cassia90 · 21/10/2018 14:16

I like River and Pixie

AhoyDelBoy · 21/10/2018 01:48

@Quizeerascal
Kai also means food in Maori, so there’s that. I did wonder where the love of the name Kai had come from. I think that may explain it Confused

AhoyDelBoy · 21/10/2018 01:41

Actually no there is no list as such but names can’t be titles or ranks. And quite rightly so. Please don’t call your poor DS Prince. After all he’s not a Prince is he? Also smacks of tacky AF. Go with River but try and sneak another letter in somehow, what about Rievyer?

AhoyDelBoy · 21/10/2018 01:33

Don’t they have a banned names list in the UK? I’m fairly certain Prince is on that list here. Maybe I live in more of a nanny state 🤷🏼‍♀️

daisypond · 20/10/2018 18:30

Best options - River and Lulu. Prince is very naff. I'd assume Lux was a boy's name . You wouldn't want other "light"names like Lucia/Lucy? Delphine? (means dolphin, but is an established name for a girl) Marina or Atlanta for a girl?) Could you do Marino for a boy? (Italian adjective meaning "of the sea/ocean"). I know a Lulu, but it's short for Eloise. Names like Sylvie, Fay, Ariel are similar in meaning to Pixie.

Sexnotgender · 20/10/2018 18:19

Ah, I love the no one understands us creative types, they’re all so boring.

Nothing creative about saddling your child with a ridiculously spelt name.

How tedious to have to go through life saying my names River, with a Y.

Cbeebiesrehab · 20/10/2018 17:55

I like unusual names and am all for a bolder name choice-within reason. I don’t think your child’s name should be where you show off your creative skills though. It doesn’t have to be top 5 or made up, there are a lot of names between Emily and Ryver.

LethalWhite · 20/10/2018 17:25

Sessy19 - it’s not really creative is it though?

Jamie Oliver called his kid River
Mel B called her kid Phoenix
I think one of the teen moms called their child Nova
Michael Jackson called his son Prince
Bob geldof called his daughter Pixie

Etc etc etc

Copying celebrities is not creative

olivesarelife · 20/10/2018 15:28

River and Lulu

Sessy19 · 20/10/2018 15:15

PS. Don’t be disheartened by the negative responses. MN does tend to be very conservative, and posters tend to be uninhibited and rude when they don’t understand or fail to appreciate creativity.

Sessy19 · 20/10/2018 15:13

Pixie (or Pearl as suggested by pp) for a girl is lovely.
I really like River and think it goes really well with Phoenix and Nova. If the River Phoenix association works out to not suit you, would you consider Axel or Aries?

Quizeerascal · 20/10/2018 13:47

Apparently Lulu is Arabic for Pearl, I think most people would still hear and assume it was a nickname though. Some other that could work might be

Boy
Kai (means sea in Hawaii)
Atticus
Griffith, Royce (both apparently mean Prince)

Unisex
Skylar
Ariel
Wren
Marlowe

Girl
Lana
Luna
Beatrix (nnTrixie)
Leilani
Lorelai
Pearl
Autumn

starkid · 20/10/2018 13:23

I like Jasper and Grace, and your childrens names Phoenix and Nova.

Can just about do River spelt like that, but I don't like any of the others sorry.
Prince is especially awful, it's a title!

They’re all horrible and try hard to be dippy and out there.

You can’t have a River and a Phoenix! Have you never heard of River Phoenix? But if you absolutely must then at least spell River correctly

Prince sounds like wanabe Beyoncé and JayZ naming style

Pixie is way too cutesy

Lulu is the least worst but should be a nickname not a full name

I actually quite like your other kids names! They’re not my taste but they’re nice enough names especially Phoenix

WitchyKitten · 20/10/2018 12:15

Lyra, Atlas and Apollo are lovely and I still really love Pixie despite the negative reactions.

I'm worrying a bit now that we're not going to have names before they arrive

Love the suggestion of Juno. Also think Indie, Marnie and Everly could work.

I really like Flynn or Apollo for boys names. They both work well with Jasper and your other DCs names. Other suggestions are Camden or Hendrix.

Justlikedevon · 20/10/2018 12:06

@mamatomjl what???

auntyflonono · 20/10/2018 11:18

Amazon and Nile?

Icklepup · 20/10/2018 08:36

River and Pixie
