Hazel or Sylvie?

We were pretty set on Sylvie for DD due soon, but I’m really falling in love with the name Hazel. She’s likely to have brown eyes and hair like her siblings so I think it would fit.

Which do you prefer and why?

Hazel and Sylvia are both lovely. Hazel I prefer. For an adult woman Sylvie sounds to me more like a nickname I would be hesitant to call someone I didn’t know well sylvie unless I was sure that was her name. I would assume she was a Sylvia. Bit awkward.

Eleanor90 · 13/10/2018 17:21

Also, sadly I won’t be able to use both as there will be a family name for the middle (Vivien).

Thank you. I’m still so torn! Maybe we should wait to see what she looks like.

Sylvia and Sylvie have totally different vibes to me and I have to say I don’t like Sylvia nearly as much. Is Sylvie too cutesy?

Sylvie

Sylvie-love it Smile

As an aside, 2 of my children have the same eye/hair colour combo and the third is totally different so don't depend on that unless variation is unlikely!

Sethis · 13/10/2018 14:51

As a Sylvie she will be slightly inconvenienced her entire life by correcting people who mispronounce it as Sylvia.

If that doesn't matter then go for it!

MinaPaws · 13/10/2018 14:44

Like Hazel, love Sylvie. They go beautifully together as well.

I also prefer Hazel to Sylvie.

wizzler · 13/10/2018 13:28

I prefer Sylvia. Hazel is a rabbit in watership down

MikeUniformMike · 13/10/2018 13:27

Hazel

Belindabauer · 13/10/2018 13:08

Sylvie.
Sylvia is even better.

CakeRattleandRoll · 13/10/2018 13:07

Like pps, I prefer Sylvia to Sylvie. If it was between Hazel and Sylvia, I wouldn't have a preference, otherwise, Hazel.

matley · 13/10/2018 12:54

I love them both (and think Sylvie is definitely nicer than Sylvia). I think I slightly prefer Hazel.

SputnikBear · 13/10/2018 12:41

If you go for Sylvie as a nickname I’d give Sylvia as the full name. Although Hazel is nicer than both.

17caterpillars1mouse · 13/10/2018 12:39

I like both but I prefer Hazel, plus i imagine a Sylvie to be very blonde hair, pale skin, light eyes

daisypond · 13/10/2018 12:27

I'm not keen on Hazel. I wouldn't have said having brown hair, etc, has much bearing on it, so that wouldn't make a difference. I think of the tree and never the colour. Sylvie is very pretty but rather fey. I prefer Sylvia.

wildewillow · 13/10/2018 11:45

I love both names! Why don't you use one for a middle name of you like them?

Sylvie Hazel is lovely as is Hazel Sylvie. They go really nice together.

DramaAlpaca · 13/10/2018 11:34

Hazel

soloula · 13/10/2018 11:10

Love Hazel, Sylvie not so much.

ScreamingValenta · 13/10/2018 11:04

Another vote for Hazel.

Emelene · 13/10/2018 11:00
