Barber for a boy?

Advice needed! Is the name Barber for a boy completely ridiculous? Would love for something different and to keep it in the family tree! (Great, great Uncles name!) Honest thoughts very welcome!

The Barber of Seville!!! Or Barbie, which is even worse.

Sorry, but it is ridiculous. It is a profession to me, not a name. Why not call him Car Mechanic.

I taught a Babar. He was Muslim so I assume it’s an Arabic name (although I may be wrong). Nobody thought anything of it, but then it was a very diverse school with lots of names from all different cultures.

Seems perfectly fine to me, especially since it’s a family name. As PP say though, if you’re apprehensive, using it as a middle name would be a safer option

OK for a middle name, pretty awful for a first name.

Perfectly acceptable as a middle name.
Wouldn’t use it as a first though. Hairdresser or King elephant to me.

It’s awful.

If you must keep a family tradition going, then use it as a middle name (many people use surnames as middle names)

I don’t know if it’s because my children’s Dad is an actual barber with a barbershop but no, for me it’s an awful name akin to butcher or baker!

Well there's lots of names I personally wouldn't use, as not to my taste. I have a two year old and have come across some unusual names at various groups. But I usually just think oh I haven't heard it before but I don't think is ridiculous.

Barber is not that crazy

Some recent examples of unique names I have only come across one of ( so far)
Marley,
Chase ( although I see he's in paw patrol now)
Ezra,
Rowan,
Bryn,
Roman,
Skyla,
Heidi ( although actually there were two Heidi's in one group, but not met one since)
Alba,
Kendra,
Theya,
Laila

And my sons name is not out there but people often ask me again, as I guess it's not that common.

I think with less used names, people don't want to make a mistake and start calling your little one the wrong thing. So just repeat it a lot and people will get it !

The op has already said it’s a family name so she wants to keep up with the tradition. I think it’s good to keep a family name going

I like it.

There are so many surname names like Harrison now it's fine - its nice. And I'm not sure there will be any Barbara's at his school, don't think that girls name is due a come back !

I can’t get on board with Barber for the above reasons but if you’re into the surname as first name or the olde occupation type names maybe go for:

Fletcher
Carter
I don’t like it but ‘Cooper’

Why would you do that to your child? Barber is a profession, not a name!

There are lots of Enochs in my family tree but I'm not about to resurrect any of them.

People will think you've either gone for the "surname as name" thing, or that you've stuck a pin in a kids' vocabulary book.

Middle name, if it's a family (transferred surname?) name you want to keep going.

I don't think it works as a first name. I'm afraid I thought 'hairdresser, elephant, rugby team'. But perhaps one or more of those is also a positive reason for you?
