So my DD is due any day now and my name list gets amended weekly! So far I have shortlisted (in order)

Mila (mee-lah)
Alyssa
Elissia
Keira
Olivia (been on my list for years just the popularity puts me off)

I’m over (ish) how others will pronounce them and how anyone else will spell them Grin I have the same issues with my own name and it’s not scarred me for life or sent me insane yet Wink

As pp suggested I prefer Alicia. From your list Olivia or Keira.

Don't be put off be popularity. Ds has a name in the top 20 and we only know one other, and he is in a different year at school

Dd has a name that hovers around the top 100 mark . We know 4..

SongsFromTheWar · 14/10/2018 07:24

Definitely Keira.

We are Scottish so chose the feminine version of Keir. This is also the most common spelling and haven't really had any issues with the spelling. She is the only one in her school that we've come across and was the only one in her nursery. The meaning of the name is dark and she was born with inch long black hair so it seemed to fit. She is now a gorgeous, confident 5 year old. Love the name even more now than the day we chose it!

Also... Do people really pronounce 'Mila' as 'Mill-a?' Confused Surely not! That's just... Wrong. It's very clearly 'Mee-la'. 'Mill-a' would be spelt 'Milla'.

Wherearemycarkeys · 14/10/2018 07:17

Mila (mee-lah) - by far my favourite! Only downside is that it's a bit popular
Alyssa - second favourite, but prefer Alessia (very popular in Italy)
Elissia - for some reason I really don't like this (which is odd given my last suggestion). I think it looks made up.
Keira - dull and a bit chavvy in my area
Olivia - everyone in the world is called Olivia these days.

ReginaPhalange89 · 13/10/2018 21:00

Mila = Mila Kunis the actress and she pronounces it Meela too so I wouldn't let others put you off , it's not like you made it up lol

Hidillyho · 13/10/2018 20:31

Mila! It was on my short list

Itchytights · 13/10/2018 20:07

I like Mila but not your way as I know a Mila pronounced Mi-eye-la.
Meela sounds so wrong.

It's a gorgeous name

Glumglowworm · 13/10/2018 19:53

Mila (pronounced as you said, mee-la)

Icklepup · 13/10/2018 17:05

Mila

Sophronia · 12/10/2018 22:38

Alyssa

Pebblesandfriends · 12/10/2018 22:13

Alyssa. Gorgeous.

Chewbecca · 12/10/2018 22:07

Alyssa
Keira
Olivia
Elissia
Mila (mee-lah)

My preference order of your names. If Alicia was on there too, that would be top.

Enjoy Grin

nocluenoidea · 12/10/2018 22:04

Meela sounds wrong. It would be my favourite out of your list but pronounced mil-a (as it's spelt)

Shadow1234 · 12/10/2018 22:00

Kiera gets my vote too

Mitzgerald · 12/10/2018 21:00

Mila - this was on my short list but partner struck it off!

RedDwarves · 12/10/2018 20:59

Keira. I like the spelling Kiera too.

Polkasq · 12/10/2018 20:51

I like Alyssa best.

ReginaPhalange89 · 12/10/2018 20:46

I like Mila, Keira or Alyssa. .

Don't like Elissia at all, and am a bit sick of the name Olivia tbh 🙈

BettyBoo246 · 12/10/2018 18:38

Maybe it’s a geographical thing as there really aren’t that many Mila’s, Keira’s or Alyssa’s where we live, YET!
Few Olivia’s like I say but as my dh keeps pointing out when you’re in your 20/30/40’s and someone asks your name they don’t usually turn round or even think and ‘oh that’s very common’... do they Confused

Mila isn't nice, and the rest are really, really popular in a number of spelling variations.

I would go back to the drawing board, tbh.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 12/10/2018 18:16

Keira or Olivia.

MoltenLasagne · 12/10/2018 18:13

Mila will get pronounced M-eye-la a lot or spelt Miller. I think it's beautiful but it's a consideration.

BiscuitsAndGravy · 12/10/2018 18:12

Mila 😍

HollowTalk · 12/10/2018 18:09

I'd go for Olivia - it's such a classic name.

WaxOnFeckOff · 12/10/2018 18:09

Ciara = feminine form of Ciar/Ciaran - Irish/Gaelic spelling
Kiera = feminine form of Kieran - anglicised form of Ciaran
Keira - feminine form of Keir - Scottish surname /forename
Kira - I think this may be an Indian spelling (Hindu?) but don't quote me...
