I know a Bryher, which as mentioned above is one of the Scilly Isles.
I also have a Bryony.
Neither gets called ‘Bri’ 🙄

I think of Briar Rose as one name (sort of without the hyphen, if that makes sense)- it sounds a bit ‘bare’ to me on its own.

I like it. I do immediately think of Briar Rose/sleeping beauty. But I think that's ok. Loads of children are named after fairytales/disney films.

I'm not sure sleeping beauty legitimises Briar as a name. It's a fairy tale.

Sorry OP but I think it's really harsh, not to mention every time someone sees it in print they will wonder if the person is actually Brian or Blair.

Briar Rose is the Wetherspoons in Birmingham.
Quite like Briar, but it will be misheard forever and people will think she's a very high-pitched Brian.

I prefer Bryher, which is the name of one or the Scilly Isles. I know a couple of Cornish girls called Bryher.

And Briar is not a shortening/'nickname' for Briony.

It reminds me of the Brer Rabbit stories. Briar means a thicket of scrambling, thorny bushes like brambles, gorse or dog rose.

Rose was 60th for girls in England and Wales last year, according to darkgreener so not massively overdone.
