Alicia?

A - liss - e - a
Or
A - lee - sha

I love the first pronunciation but hate the second. Is there another way some might spell it so it’s more obviously pronounced the first way?

I work in a school where that name is fairly popular, I reckon it’s about half and half pronunciation wise. It’s also just my luck that if I say “A-lee-sha” she’ll be an “A-liss-e-a” and vice versa Hmm

I much prefer “A-liss-e-a” though Smile

There have been multiple threads on this in the past, so if you want more opinions, OP, a search should show up quite a lot.

I personally would pronounce it Uh-leesh-uh.

I'm not sure it matters really. After the first time, everyone will know. And don't most people learn your name through speech, rather than by reading it written down? So when she says "Hi, I'm Alicia" they'll hear how she pronounces it anyway.

MikeUniformMike · 05/10/2018 19:18

I don't like Al-iss-y-a or Aleesha ways of saying it.
I would say it as Al-ISH-a, like the icia in Patricia.
So I would pick Alyssa or Alice instead.

BettyBoo246 · 05/10/2018 19:16

I did think of may be spelling it Alyssia so there’s no confusion but can’t help but think that looks a bit ‘made up’ Hmm

Al-i-see-a

Al-ee-sha is the more common pronunciation in the US, I think.

Boxingmum · 05/10/2018 18:34

This was one of my baby names and it's pronounced the first way "Ali see ya"

Beautiful name, I ended up having a boy, called him Cole ... still love this name!

sazzle27 · 05/10/2018 18:26

Most people said it that way as well, very few used the second way to her, and even if they did, once corrected they didnt

sazzle27 · 05/10/2018 18:26

First way - ah-liss-ee-ah

Mostly due to my best friend having this name..

BellMcEnd · 05/10/2018 18:22

The first way.

PointlessUsername · 05/10/2018 18:21

A-lee-cee-a

PaintBySticker · 05/10/2018 18:20

The second way I’m afraid. I think if you use that name some people will pronounce it that way at least until corrected (and maybe even after being corrected)

RavenWings · 05/10/2018 18:20

Oh, a-lee-see-ah! Yes, forgot about that, I've met one of those. Not mad about it tbh.

RavenWings · 05/10/2018 18:19

I'd be 50/50 on the pronunciation. Would probably lean towards Aleesha, A-liss-ee-ah always sounded a bit affected to me.

Love Alyssa though. Nicest by far.

Botanicbaby · 05/10/2018 18:18

Common as in frequency not class! BlushBlush

MollyHuaCha · 05/10/2018 18:18

I have taught three pronunciations of this name:

Most common: A-LEE-see-a

Next common: A-LISS-ee-a

Least common: A-LEE-sha

AdaColeman · 05/10/2018 18:17

The first way.
The second way is a different name.

dandelion93 · 05/10/2018 18:17

I'd pronounce it Al-ee-sha as I know a few who spell it this way.

Botanicbaby · 05/10/2018 18:17

I meant I’d expect to find it more common to pronounce it the first way! Blush

Nellyelora · 05/10/2018 18:16

Aleesha - just because everyone I've ever met with that name (including people from other countries and those quite middle class) have pronounced it that way.

Botanicbaby · 05/10/2018 18:16

I’d assume the first way is correct! I prefer it too OP.

BettyBoo246 · 05/10/2018 18:15

Nona I do love Alyssa too just cannot decide which i like more Confused

BackforGood · 05/10/2018 18:14

Al - iss - ee - ah

though, if I had the chance, I'd ask, as it is one of those names that is used more than one way

Thiswayorthatway · 05/10/2018 18:14

The first.

LusaCole · 05/10/2018 18:13

I prefer the first but would assume the second (as I think it's the more usual one).

SoupDragon · 05/10/2018 18:13

A - liss - e - a
