Middle name for Aurora

Aurora is a strong contender for our daughter but I’m not sure if the middle names we like go with it? Daisy, Lily, Margot, Willow and Xanthe, leaning more towards Margot or Willow. Does it matter if they don’t flow? Suggestions welcome.

I assumed Xanthe was more unusual than Aurora especially as Aurora broke the top 100 this year. I’m pleased the combination is getting good feedback though. Is Aurora not considered a “proper name”, also?

We liked the suggestion of Aurora Bea but Bea doesn’t work with our surname so we were thinking maybe Aurora Beatrice or even Aurora Beatrix. That is possibly too long of a combination though? We liked Aurora Phoebe too and maybe Katherine instead of Kate. I think we’re keeping Margot, Willow and Xanthe from our original list.

Also, if I ask myself 'would I like to be called Aurora Xanthe' I think yes, that would be fine. I might prefer to use Xanthe in adulthood, at work especially, as it's crisper and (to my ear) more sophisticated, less floaty. I can imagine enjoying the nn 'Roar' but not necessarily 'Roarer'!

I'd much rather have a proper name like that as a middle name, especially one in a slightly different style, than some 'filler style' middle name, almost only ever used as a mn, that I wouldn't be able to swap to.

Aurora Xanthe is good. They flow well and do have the 'A to Z' sound about them, which is quite pleasing.

Doilooklikeatourist · 06/10/2018 22:45

Aurora Margot

Aurora Xanthe is fine. I like Aurora Daisy, too.

Cosmoa · 06/10/2018 22:37

I love Aurora Xanthe! Other than the fact it sounds great, I like that the first name starts with the first letter of the alphabet and the second is nearly that last!

I say go for it 😁❤️

EffieP · 06/10/2018 14:57

Any opinions on Aurora Xanthe? Is it too much?

I regret not using Aurora as a middle name for dd2. I love it!

I think you need an unusual middle name to go with Aurora. Names like Emily sound weird with Aurora! My daughters middle name is winter. I'm not saying use that but something in that vein.

Aurora Luna
Aurora Eden
Aurora Valentina
Aurora Storm
Aurora crystal
Aurora Summer
Aurora Tempest

It’s good to hear that our options are ok. I like a lot of the suggestions too so thank you for those. I like Niamh and Maeve with Aurora and they don’t actually sound bad with our surname but we have absolutely no Irish connection so I think it’d be a bit weird for us to use them lol.

I agree that Aurora is r heavy but I think it’s vowel heavy too which is why I worried about Margot and Willow with it. They do both sound good with our surname, I think lol.

I love the name Aurora! It was going to be my pick on the thread 'what would you like to be called'? I think I could have pulled it off.

pixieloux · 04/10/2018 18:45

Ours has Cáitlín (Koyt-Leen) We considered Willow too as well as Maeve and Niamh which has been suggested.

We just made sure to avoid anything that had any Rs in it!

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 04/10/2018 18:27

You're right than one syl would sound staccato, too many would be a mouthful e.g. Aurora Elizabeth James.
