Middle name for Aurora

Aurora is a strong contender for our daughter but I’m not sure if the middle names we like go with it? Daisy, Lily, Margot, Willow and Xanthe, leaning more towards Margot or Willow. Does it matter if they don’t flow? Suggestions welcome.

As much as names like May, June, Quinn, etc do sound nice with Aurora we can’t use them with our one syllable surname anyway. I like that Margot grounds Aurora a bit but I don’t think i flows well. I think Willow does despite sharing the same O sound because it’s softer and fits more in style with Aurora. For me, Xanthe fits in with the description you’ve given for Aurora, Willow and Phoebe. It also feels quite whimsical and floaty.

Oh yes, Aurora is certainly a 'proper name' and yes, Xanthe probably more unusual. My comparison above was between Xanthe and 'filler style' middle names.

To me, Aurora is quite floaty, ethereal, hippyish. Willow and Phoebe are of a similar style, nature / goddess names. Xanthe is crisper and a different style of name, likewise Margot. Which could be useful if she'd like a choice later in life, while being interesting in themselves too. Much better than say Jane or May.

Sorry I meant my favorite

My daughter is called Aurora Jovie

EffieP · 07/10/2018 16:38

Thanks to everyone else. We’ve now made a short list of Aurora Beatrice (maybe Beatrix), Katherine, Margot, Willow and Xanthe.

Oh honey, I was kind enough to give you the attention you are clearly lacking earlier but now you’re taking the piss so you’ll have to find somebody else to humour you. This will be my last reply to you so best wishes.

Starr

EffieP · 07/10/2018 13:36

That’s exactly my point. If I heard a name I didn’t like, I’d keep it to myself as that’s the polite thing to do and to be fair because it’s not for me to like.

My issue was with the trying to brush it off as just being honest/human nature to judge when in reality you wouldn’t actually say a thing when face to face to someone. I don’t care if it’s not liked by someone. If I’d have asked for opinions then fair enough but to come on a thread and randomly state it must be a joke then slate the name/people who like it just seems unnecessary and down right rude. I guess some people need to find some source of entertainment from somewhere!

Thank you wildewillow. Aurora Willow is on our shortlist. I’m happy your daughter loves her name pixieloux. I think it’s beautiful and I’m sure she wears it well.

The name Aurora is the Roman goddess of dawn and that pre dates any Disney film (1950's). It was also widely used in the nineteenth century and in many European countries still so hardly a 'silly twee joke' name! Ignore any nasty comments OP it's beautiful.

How about:
Aurora Maeve
Aurora Winter
Aurora Iris
Aurora Willow
Aurora Wren
Aurora Violet
Aurora Lark

pixieloux · 07/10/2018 11:55

Oh dear lol.

FWIF OP, we have only ever gotten compliments with ours. Her peers LOVE it because of the Disney connection - she was always called princess Aurora at nursery and that’s about the only connection children her age have, in our experience. Most importantly though, she loves it! It does seem to be a bit of a marmite name online... It’s something you’ll get used to lol.

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 07/10/2018 11:47

People in rl won't say anything negative to you though I doubt.

dangerrabbit · 07/10/2018 11:46

A short, one syllable name or a name ending in a consonant would complement well.

EffieP · 07/10/2018 11:45

I honestly don’t mind if people don’t like the name lol. I just think there is a difference in being downright rude and sharing an opinion. Hey, at least my Aurora will be ok if someone does say anything to them as I’ll just kick off lol. Although hormones may not be so aggressive then lol.

I'm with you OP. No need to give an opinion when it hasn't been asked for!!!

EffieP · 07/10/2018 11:43

Not when the question isn’t asking for opinions of the name, I mean. Everyone has different opinions/taste and I don’t expect everyone to like our choice but I also didn’t see the need to say that someone who likes a name you don’t “lacks” taste.

Fwiw I love Aurora Wink but there are many names I dislike that are proposed on here and have no issues in saying so. My own DC's names are often mentioned in a derogatory way on threads but I don't take offence as I know that not everyone has my good taste Grin

Cosmoa · 07/10/2018 11:41

There are some real tiresome people on mumsnet OP.. With nothing better to do than be rude. Just ignore them!

EffieP · 07/10/2018 11:35

Sorry, I guess I’m just not the type of person who sees the need to tell people a name they are considering is a joke, silly and that everyone thinks it’s twee. I’m sure many people do share that opinion but there are also many that don’t. Maybe that comes across as “disingenuous” of me but I just don’t see where it helps the person asking a question in any way! I’m sure my child will be fine if we do decide to go with Aurora, just as the many others out there must be :)

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 07/10/2018 11:25

Don't be so touchy OP. One person says that Aurora is twee and you kick off!

EffieP · 07/10/2018 11:17

You’re welcome!
