What would you like to be called?

If you could choose your own name what would you go for and why?

I'd like to be called Tessa. It isn't particularly common but everyone knows it, knows how to spell it and pronounce it. I think is sounds quite cool too

I quite like my name, it's unusual but well known IYSWIM and pretty timeless IMO, more common in America, but not so here in the U.K.

ps: my mother was a Betty & very much loathed it. That's why she was so supportive of me choosing my own name.

I did choose my own name! As a child. My parents were supportive.

I'm not telling. It's often called "Anything but" a nice name and other insults on MN. But I have no regrets.

There's a one letter addition to my name which is called by MNers "a beautiful classic" but I think it's hideously awful and have explicitly banned DC from ever thinking they could name their DC after me using that awful name. Unless I'm dead by then.

My real name has been described on MN as being 80s council estate/pop wannabes. I don't disagree. Grin

If I could rename myself without any hassle/upset then I would and I would opt for Emma or Emily. Gorgeous, timeless names with lots of history and wonderful namesakes (unlike my actual name).

Tuesday or the most awesome name ever - the Icelandic name Thórhildur. Maybe Isolde. It's so hard to choose. I love names.

People associate my name, which hasn't aged well and is squarely an 80s name, with happiness and pleasure. It was insisted upon by my dad. I like my mn much better, but my bro gave it to my niece. I'd choose a no nonsense and simple name for myself. I really like Joan for me or the prettier Jobeth if I didn't use IIT for a child.

My actual name is Elizabeth. It's fine. No real complaints. But I'd quite like a unisex name. Sawyer is my favourite, but I like Piper too. I am very feminine, but I think I could pull those names off very well.

I'm very happy with the name I have, tbh. If I had to choose another, I'd be Elizabeth. I could quite fancy being 'Betty'

I really love my name. It’s a bit clunky and very of its time but I like it.

If I had a different name, I’d like it to be something quirky and a bit flowery. Clementine or Paloma or Cornelia or something

Something like Hannah. My name is quite unusual, it’s more popular now but was very rare whe I was at primary school and everyone was called Claire or Sarah! I didn’t like that my name stood out and wanted a ‘normal’ name.

I also get Rachel a lot or sometimes Catherine Confused. I suspect they are names of the same vintage as mine.

I prefer the name I have over all others (not Bev!)
But if I had to choose another I would have Laura.
Weirdly if anyone ever gets my name wrong and calls me a name that isn’t mine, without fail they call me Rachel. My name is nothing like Rachel. There are no famous Rachel’s with the same surname as me. It has happened over the phone so it isn’t that I look like a Rachel. I can only conclude that is my name in another universe.

I get called that anyway by people who have misheard my name, and its less jarring than my actual name.
