Brace yourself, OP.
As I said on another thread, my now adult DCs have unusual names but you do have to choose carefully.

Boys
Errol - Flynn? It's not bad, but no.
Humphrey - very old fashioned and not in a good way. No, he'll get ripped into at school and it doesn't have a workable nickname either.
Lockie - eh? Sounds a bit like lackey. Definitely no.
Tate - and Lyle? Taties? (potatoes) no.
Zander - I like this but prefer the original spelling of Xander.
Zeus - hahahaha. No.

Girls
Amitie - Amityville, the house on the hill? Google it. No. Fine as a nickname but not as a name and the poor kid is going to spend her whole life spelling it out. Definite no.
Athena - I know an Athena, now an adult and she's great so yes, I like this.
Elvie - elf? No, again ok as a nickname for Elvira or similar but on its own no.
Fifer - again, eh? How about Piper instead, which is a name. Fifer sounds like a misspelling. So no.
Florence - ok but very commonly used now.
Jolie - Angelina? Jolly? No.
Nell - is ok but brings to mind a buxom, ale serving wench.

ReginaPhalange89 · 04/10/2018 05:37

Sorry but the only name I like on the list is Florence !

Pemba · 04/10/2018 03:21

The only ones I like are Athena and Zander (but that should probably be spelt Xander as a pp said). Sorry but a lot of your names are quite odd! - Jolie (pretty) hmm, that's a lot to live up to! Fifer, is that a name, where did that come from? Nellie, the elephant, as pps say, but just Nell is nice as a short form for Helen/a or Eleanor. And then by complete contrast Florence is too popular at the moment and I find it stodgy.

And Zeus, king of the gods, really? Lockie, again, what is that? Humphrey, sounds like a retired judge. Errol reminds me of the cheesy 1930s/40s film star Errol Flynn who was what they used to call a 'womaniser' and people said of him the catchphrase 'in like Flynn'. (Mind boggles)

Sophronia · 04/10/2018 00:12

I like Errol and Florence

RedDwarves · 03/10/2018 21:51

Tate and Florence are fine.

LydiaLunch9 · 03/10/2018 21:41

Zeus is a good name... for a German Shepherd.

MawkishTwaddle · 03/10/2018 21:36

Hormones have a lot to answer for...

Shadow1234 · 03/10/2018 21:09

Tate and Florence are the only two I like I'm afraid.

PersisFord · 03/10/2018 20:50

Boys-
Errol - it’s not bad
Humphrey - medium bad
Lockie - if short for Lachlan then lovely, if a misspelling of Loki then under no circs
Tate - no this is bad
Zander - I find this so try hard, in my eyes it is in no way a shortening of Alexander (which is a cracking name but should be shortened to Alex)
Zeus - no no

Girls-
Amitie - this is awful, I never watch horror films and still thought of it.
Athena - I like this
Elvie - is it short for something like Elvira? Elvira is pretty
Fifer - no just dreadful
Florence - it’s ok
Jolie - not nice
Nellie - only if a nickname for Eleanor

My main issue with most of your names is that they aren’t names!

How about Flynn?

wildewillow · 03/10/2018 20:46

Errol - No
Humphrey - No.
Lockie - No. predictive text said Locker.

Tate - ok
Zander - No. spell it Xander.
Zeus - are you having a laugh? No!

Amitie - ville horror
Athena - nice
Elvie - No. You're naming a child not a fairy.
Fifer - No. How about £5?
Florence - lovely

Jolie - nice
Nellie - the elephant. Ok as a nn for Helen/Helena etc

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 03/10/2018 20:42

Boys-
Errol - I quite like this
Humphrey - not dreadful
Lockie - OK if short for Lochlan
Tate - nope
Zander - 'Xander' for Alexander is OK
Zeus - just no. Please no.

Girls-
Amitie - ville horror
Athena - 80's posters
Elvie - no
Fifer - not a name
Florence - pleasant enough
Jolie - Angelina
Nellie - Nell is better

LovelyGirlNOT · 03/10/2018 20:41

Boys-
Errol - Yuck!
Humphrey - Eurgh!
Lockie - Eh?
Tate - It's ok, but not in love with it
Zander - The nicest on your list
Zeus - Please don't, poor kid will be taunted forever

Girls-
Amitie - Ugly & harsh sounding
Athena - Sounds a bit pretentious, dahhhling!
Elvie - Bleurgh!
Fifer - Sounds like a name you'd give to a dog
Florence - nice, but will be shortened to Flo, which is hideous
Jolie - The nicest on your list
Nellie - horrid

Frustratedboarder · 03/10/2018 20:40

Boys names - Tate and Zander, others are really dubious (although maybe Lachie as abbreviation of Lachlan)!!
Girls - Athena is the only one is consider ok, but only ok....
You did ask!! Grin
don't ask Me My kids names you'd definitely all Hate and Slate them!!

Armchairanarchist · 03/10/2018 20:40

I'd only use Xander if spelt with an X.

Thewolvesarerunningagain · 03/10/2018 20:39

Of your list Xander is a good name. Lockie would work better as either Locke or maybe the Scottish Lachlan? Athena is fine, and although Nellie isn’t great Nell is nice. If you like Athena might Minerva, Juno, or Helena work for you?

Bridgetwithoutthejones · 03/10/2018 20:37

Boys-
Errol- No
Humphrey- very wet
Lockie- really? Grin
Tate- not a fan but not awful
Zander- same as Tate. Would prefer Alexander with nn Xander
Zeus- poor boy, would be a lot to live up to

Girls-
Amitie- am probably being dim but my brain went ??? at how to say this
Athena- not a fan but perfectly fine name
Elvie- don’t like but do like Effie

Fifer- no
Florence- okay
Jolie- no
Nellie- wet

Sorry! I think we just have different tastes

Eleanor90 · 03/10/2018 20:36

I love Fifer! Athena and Florence also nice.

Not keen on your boys I’m afraid, but at a push Xander (Zander is a fish) or Tate.

Miltonkeynesmummy · 03/10/2018 20:35

Agree with Lachlan and lockie for short and Nellie for a girl.

Shazafied · 03/10/2018 20:33

Lachlan is nice , lockie for short x

whatausername · 03/10/2018 20:33

Okay my last post sounds harsh. Zander, Tate, Florence and Athena are fine if they're your style SmileSmile

Thebluedog · 03/10/2018 20:33

Florence is the only one I’d pick. Don’t like any of the others for the girls or the boys

whatausername · 03/10/2018 20:32

And Fifer? As in someone from Fife in Scotland? As alright as some parts of Fife are, it is not an area I'd choose to honour. Just wait until she hears her name said in Fife accent Grin

Athena and Florence are okay enough out of your list but that's about all I can say.

Jessiemay88 · 03/10/2018 20:31

Zander tate nellie and athena i think are favs from the list

sexnotgender · 03/10/2018 20:31

Pretty much all hideous except Florence!

Amitie? Like Amityville horror?

babblebot · 03/10/2018 20:31

Thank you everyone!! genuinely appreciate the honest opinions as there's a few I wasn't 100% about and you've confirmed that they're definitely too OTT! Blush
