Found this name in a Victorian novel and think it's really pretty.

I don't have a baby to name.

What do others think of it?

There's a fairly well known footballer called Steve Sidwell. If I met a child called Sidwell it would cross my mind that he or she might be named after him.

Im not a fan of it, its upto you though ur child but why all the nasty replies ? I know she asked for opinions but theirs nicer ways to reply Espeically the "poor child" one very uncalled for

Yes, in the George Gissing novel, the girl was named after St Sidwell. They were a religious family.

I like it. The only thing that would put me off is that it reminds me of the John Sparkes character, Shadwell.

Sidwell was a virgin saint from Exeter, she was apparently killed by reapers with a scythe, around 740 AD. There’s still a church and parish of that name, as well as Sidwell Street, in Exeter.
