OK so we dont know what were having but we have a short list for both... middle name for boy would be James and for girl I am open to using any name that goes (probably another one from short list if it goes) anyway here it goes DONT HATE ME - i dont mind popular names but want it to be a fairly "normal" and "nice"

Alice rather than Alicia. People always pronounce Alicia wrong.

I have sons but if I'd had a girl I'd have called her Alice :). I also like Anna, Emma and variations on it e.g. Emmeline (and Emilia tbf! There are just sooooo many Amelias about that it's put me off). I guess I prefer more old-fashioned or classic names and your girls ones seem more modern (or at least v popular just now which I think will date them and makes them feel "of the time" in a way those boys names aren't iyswim) but that's just my opinion :)

I'm not sure any of the other girls games on your list would work as a middle name for Alicia though. I'm another one who isn't a fan of Darcy as a girls name.

It's not that I don't like the sound of the word 'Darcy' I actually do, and it's a really nice surname. It's just every time I called her name I would be mentally adding 'Mr' in front, and I'd just think it's not a logical girls' name. But obviously you wouldn't be thinking that!

@ReginaPhalange89 yes im seeing more and more Georges but i think weve gone for fairly popular names so we will kind of have to suck that up! Im not a quirky person so generally like whats "in" ...

Its actually so hard because i (luckily) like all the names weve choose, so seeing them together in different formats actually makes it harder because i havent disliked any pairing!!

I love George . But it's quite common now isn't it ? So if I had a boy right now and had to pick one of those names I think I'd choose Samuel !

Love Ayda . Also really like Alicia .

@Pemba seems like its one of those names you just dont like (for the reasons explained) ... i feel the same about pippa and poppy so cant blame you - im sure everybody has a few names like that.

The P&P Mr Darcy actually is one of the reasons i like it so much, think it sounds very clean cut and kind

Alicia seems to be one of the favourites on this thread ... looking forward to showing DH this evening and doing some pairings of our own!

Well yes Samuel or William (s?) James or George could all be surnames, but in those cases, the surnames derive from the first name. I mean when surnames began to be used, a man might be known as say, Richard George because his father was named George.

But Darcy is originally a surname, coming from d'Arcy. (Arcy is a place in France). So the original person to have this surname was 'from Arcy' or 'de Arcy' in French (which contracts to D'Arcy).

It just makes me think of Mr Darcy from Pride and Prejudice. I don't like surname names anyway and especially for girls. Although I realise it's become popular as a girls' name.

But I do love Alicia and Isobel!
