Frannie short for Francesca?

Opinions on Frannie short for Francesca please.

DH and I both love Francesca and I'd happily call future DD just by Francesca but DH wants a nickname handy too. He offered up Frankie but I'm not keen. I offered Cheska but he wasn't keen. Our middle ground is Frannie but we are wondering if it sounds strange or too close to fanny?

So yeah we get that's what is likely to happen with Francesca as a name too.

Might go with Victoria though as we do love that name

I get that in the future they'll choose their nn themselves (no issues with that, my sister and a few friends have actually completely changed their names by deed poll so not even surprised if they grow and do that either). But names that are long do get shortened and we currently have a DS with a long name that could have various NN, we are fine with all shortenings bar one for him. One particularly nn he is pretty much solely known by really as that's what we have mainly called him from day he was born.

(FYI, I can force orgasms - off topic though)

@RedDwarves ITA, I think Francesca is simply a name with ugly sounding shortenings.

Franny is really not a nice sound. I don't get this current obsession for planning children's nicknames. It's like trying to force a orgasm. Some things are just meant to happen by themselves.

LeeMiller · 03/10/2018 20:34

Prefer Ces / Cesca

Bilingualspingual · 03/10/2018 12:43

I’m a Frances who often gets shortened to Franny or Fran. I hate them both and much prefer it when people use my real name.

NotAQueef · 03/10/2018 12:42

oh and really like Frankie too

NotAQueef · 03/10/2018 12:41

Not keen on Frannie. Cesca is nice, but I prefer Fran as a nn

Rebecca36 · 03/10/2018 12:40

Frannie is better than Fanny I suppose but why not Fran?

OliviaStabler · 03/10/2018 12:19

Frannie sounds too much like fanny. She'll be teased mercilessly.

TatianaLarina · 03/10/2018 12:17

Hate Frankie.

I like Fran or Ces/Cesca. The Francesca I know is called both.

bridgetreilly · 03/10/2018 12:15

Franny is awful, imo. My favourite is Chessie.

AtticaRose · 03/10/2018 10:11

I know a Francesca nn Franca and a Francesca (playfully) nicknamed Fancy. :-)

RedDwarves · 03/10/2018 09:52

Unfortunately, Francesca is just one of those names with unattractive shortenings. I think Frankie, Cheska (too contrived, anyway) and Frannie are dire.

Heaviestdirtyestsoul · 03/10/2018 09:52

I have a Francesca, she is Chessie, Chess, Frankie and Frannie- even at 16 she likes it ❤

BeeBum · 03/10/2018 09:49

Yeah I really like Chessie or Chess, I am gonna suggest those to DH later

Appreciate the feedback on Frannie though, seems majority are against it?

I am not totally against Frankie, just I suppose I have negative connotations from knowing a Frankie but I could get past that

Frankie is my favourite of the nicknames.

dinkydonky · 03/10/2018 09:37

I know a Fran who is sometimes known as Frannie - I've never thought of fanny! Chess is cool too.

You'll probably find the nn evolves over time anyway so if you both like the long variant I wouldn't over think it!

ConsiderHerWaysAndOthers · 03/10/2018 01:26

I hear it as Fanny, sorry. Frankie and Cheska are tons better. I know a few Frans and a Chess if those are any good? Ultimately she’ll probably choose her own nickname as she gets older though.

Oliversmumsarmy · 03/10/2018 01:20

I would have thought Frannie was a nn for Francis

Overyou · 03/10/2018 01:16

Love Francesca but not Fran or Frannie

moredoll · 03/10/2018 01:12

Frankie!

sunshineandshowers21 · 03/10/2018 01:03

my friend is called francesca and is known as frankie, but her family have always called her chessy.

Aintnothingbutaheartache · 03/10/2018 00:49

Frankie!
Definitely!

Picknickers · 03/10/2018 00:46

Franny was my dad's nn for my mum so I love it.

Shadow1234 · 02/10/2018 22:22

I prefer Frankie, and cheska is ok, but dont like Franny tbh.
