No

Botanicbaby · 02/10/2018 23:32

Awful name.

BarbarianMum · 02/10/2018 23:29

Great name for a stripper.

Sethis · 02/10/2018 23:25

There are worse names, but there are better ones too.

I'd also stay away from Sapphire.

Why did you pick it by the way? Was it just a nice sound, or does it have special connotations to it? If it's the idea of the colour then Amber is equivalent and much less... uh... stripper-like, to quote some other posters.

It's also easily contracted to "spaz" which probably isn't a name your kid wants hanging around their neck for their whole school career.

DramaAlpaca · 02/10/2018 23:22

I also think of the petrol station chain.

There are much nicer gemstone names.

Flywheel · 02/10/2018 23:21

I think petrol stations too

NonaGrey · 02/10/2018 23:19

No

FlyMaybe · 02/10/2018 23:18

Bit of a stripper name IMO

PavlovaFaith · 02/10/2018 22:14

I once had a goldfish called Topaz!

Children have been called Sapphire, Opal, Gem(ma), Ruby...

So why the heck not?

AfterSchoolWorry · 02/10/2018 22:10

As in the petrol station?! Confused

RiverTam · 02/10/2018 22:06

Yes, Topaz was the stepmother in I Capture the Castle.

It works for an adult but I think could be hard for a child to deal with.

MadMaryBoddington · 02/10/2018 22:03

I like it.

ZebraKid71 · 02/10/2018 21:59

There is a LG at my daughters nursery called topaz. Her parents call her topsy. I wasn't a fan at first but it has definitely grown on me.

HeadHeartandSoul · 02/10/2018 17:16

I Capture the Castle ...

Secretlifeofme · 02/10/2018 16:54

One of my cats is called Topaz, so it's a no from me, sorry.

seeingdots · 02/10/2018 16:51

I quite like it. Makes me think of the character in I Capture the Castle. Wouldn't use it myself though.

RangerLady · 02/10/2018 16:41

I've met one! In Essex. It's not a name I would go for personally.

CalonGlas · 02/10/2018 16:27

A lot depends on your surname.

Topaz Jones - quirky!

Topaz Montaya - "born Phyllis Bludge in Witchita in 1902, the Hollywood starlet found fame as the Pillsbury Dough Girl of 1920..." etc.

alfiesmam · 02/10/2018 16:23

It’s a chain of petrol stations in Ireland

Honey2468 · 02/10/2018 16:21

I think it’s lovely!

Melstarrynight · 02/10/2018 16:14

Stripper or horse. Sorry

CarolDanvers · 02/10/2018 16:11

I love it. I'd never use it though, too much sneering.

Polkasq · 02/10/2018 16:10

I think it sounds nice. Of the gemstone names I like Amber too.

user1483387154 · 02/10/2018 15:27

Stripper

Rebellia · 02/10/2018 15:25

What are her friends going to call her when she's a teenager?

Toe? Pazz? Not exactly very appealing options.

Way too alternative/try hard in my opinion. Fine for a cat, not for a child who has to grow up to become a working adult.
