DH doesn’t like any of my names

My DH has vetoed all the names on my list while coming up with a shorter list I don’t like. Suggestions for names we might both like please?!

My list:
Joseph
Benjamin
Aidan (he thinks this is ok)
Francesco (Frankie)
Adam
Luke

His list:
Theodore
Max (which we can’t have as my bf called her child that)

If we have a girl we have agreed on Georgina. But we don’t want George.

Help!

No, you can’t control nicknames! George may well be used, especially with Famous Five still around. I also dislike the other shortenings - those above and Gina.

The Georginas I know are Georgie and Gigi, not George.

Georgina is still under discussion ! We’d like to control what her nickname will be but I know that’s not possible

I’m also starting to like Kate.

I like his lists much more than yours, sorry op.

I also know a georgina who goes by George. Also, you don't control what their friends call them when they are older, so if you hate georgie then don't go with georgina.

Haha I’ve never read famous five (I was a fan of secret seven and magic faraway tree!) but yes Georgina aka George the Tomboy hehe

Very good points there Lottie I think we both have strong aversions to lots of names for a variety of reasons (people we know or have known mainly- both good and bad) but we need to keep a more open mind and test things out.

Good progress. Was going to say he needs a longer list, you need a veto.

I don't think it's helpful to start with a 'these are the only names acceptable to me' list or attitude.

Better to start with a longer list of names you like, one each. Be a bit open-minded and creative if possible. Apply vetoes, discuss areas of uncertainty, arrive at collection of names acceptable to you both.

Starting with heels already dug in and a 'defender of acceptability' atitude gives both of you the false notion that it is possible to insist on a name the other dislikes, despite their objections. That is not true.

Oh I’m surprised so many Georginas are called George! Really surprised. I don’t actually know any Georginas.

Same, a girl at work is called Georgina and its always shortened to George.

I have an Aidan over here. He is 22 now and I didn’t know any other DC with the same name. I have a Luke too. Names are tricky and at least you have a short list even if your OH is very short.

Ugh, about every fifth dog is named Max. And Theodore? What century is your husband living in? If he doesn't like your list he needs to come up with a new list himself, because these aren't choices.

DH has disappeared upstairs and is avoiding the naming conversation.

I’ve a feeling it’s a boy and we are never going to agree on a name! I’m only in the second trimester so we have plenty of time but we chose the name for our DD so quickly last time!
