Hi all I'm consodering changing my 7 month old babies name. My husband refuses to and I'm suffering badly over it. I feel if let my baby down. Anyone else going through this?

Do you wish you changed her name or are you glad you stuck with it?

OP I totally get the link between her name and your trauma. I had an awful birth that very nearly ended in my death (that sounds so dramatic but it is true!) and for months I disliked her name because it brought the disappointment of a bad birth back to me - calling her the name we picked was supposed to be a wonderful moment and instead it was surrounded by this terrible event. I didn't change it but it took me a long time to get used to it. She's 5 now and I'm through my issues but I say if it makes you feel better then go for it. Thanks

Mountainsided · 09/10/2018 16:29

Massive well done for changing her name OP.

ThursdaysChildHasFarToGo · 07/10/2018 18:05

Well done OP xx

Loubell21 · 07/10/2018 16:30

Spoke to parents and they said oh and make it soon and that was it. Anyone who is struggling with this please just do it. It's not as scary as you thought and ultimately it appears no-one actually is terribly bothered. And thanks. You are a fab lot xx

Well done OP! Honestly if someone told me they had changed their babies name I wouldn't think it was a big deal at all. I hope you feel better now you've made the decision to do it Smile

FaceLikeAPairOfTits · 07/10/2018 14:46

Exactly, people will think in it’s a bit unusual, and it may be mildly amusing, but ultimately yes, so what?

Are you going to start calling DD her new name straight away? Exciting!

Loubell21 · 07/10/2018 13:02

My immediate reaction to your story is so what no big deal and your choice. Well done. Different when it's yourself. Think I will feel better when it is just done. And thanks everyone. It's nice to have support even if it's faceless!!!

Oh, I also used to say “I do still like Name X, it just wasn’t a fit for her”. That made me feel less of an idiot. BlushGrin And it’s true, the name is fine, it just wasn’t The One.

FaceLikeAPairOfTits · 07/10/2018 12:06

I didn’t actually hear many reactions either because DP told them when I wasn’t there, or because they were my close friends who knew how stressed I was about it. I think anyone else was dealt with quite quickly with “we’ve changed her name, it never suited her and we prefer this instead”. I’m still a bit embarrassed if I think about it, but nobody brings it up in conversation.

Loubell21 · 07/10/2018 11:55

I would prefer not to say as it'll give me away. And I know some of my friends are on this. Facelikeapairoftits how did people react?

Good for you Wink between now and then start calling her by her new name to check you like it and it works

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 07/10/2018 11:34

That's good OP. What's the name of you don't mind saying?

FaceLikeAPairOfTits · 07/10/2018 11:34

Brilliant. I dropped the old name completely when I got the new birth certificate. No deed poll needed before age 1.

Loubell21 · 07/10/2018 11:10

Thanks everyone. It helps when people are being supportive and saying it isn't big deal. Hubby and I have decided to change it. Many thanks all xx

Just change it. Announce to everyone you’ve wanted to do since day 1 and move this name to a middle name of its easier.
I would think a friend or family member was brave and would support them in this. Baby will quickly learn their new name

Topseyt · 07/10/2018 10:17

Change it. This isn't an uncommon scenario. Just do it.

You may not even need a deed poll as your baby is still under twelve months of age.

Have your new chosen name as her first name and perhaps keep the one you have been using as a middle name? Although my preference would be to drop the unwanted name totally and just go with the new one because I have been known by most people by my middle name for all of my life and have had a lifetime of constantly having to explain it.

Cbeebiesrehab · 07/10/2018 10:06

Change it and then you can move on! 7 months is nothing in the grand scheme of things and it’s clearly causing you distressFlowers

finallychangedmyusername · 07/10/2018 09:52

Do you have another name in mind for your DD, OP? Are you happy to share her name? If so, we could suggest nicknames/transition names to a new name.

FaceLikeAPairOfTits · 07/10/2018 09:09

How are feeling today, OP?

ReginaPhalange89 · 07/10/2018 06:05

Honestly if you hate it that much and you have for a long time then I think you should just go for it . If you don't you'll regret it, and waiting any longer might confuse her . Better to do it while she's still a baby baby !

earlybyrd · 07/10/2018 05:36

Pp not op

earlybyrd · 07/10/2018 05:36

I changed my baby's name and am SO glad I did. It's not that unusual to do it, agree with op let DP blame you for 'flakiness'. Own the decision and stop faffing, take a deep breath and DO IT

IvanMashPotatoIvanDoTheTwist · 07/10/2018 05:29

I wouldn't do it gradually though as people will be all 'what are they calling the child this week!' Just tip the plaster off!

IvanMashPotatoIvanDoTheTwist · 07/10/2018 05:29

Just change it, your husband can just tell people that you wanted to and remove any embarrassment from himself, a small price to pay for a name you are really happy with xx
