I love the name Bridget, and whilst I am not currently TTC I have a baby name list. I mentioned this name to DH and PIL, they all immediately said they didn't like it as all they could think of is Bridget Jones' Diary! Is this really how most people feel about the name?

I like Bridget. The catholic church devaled bridget but she was a celtic goddess.

DramaAlpaca · 29/09/2018 14:07

I like it.

AnyaMoondial · 29/09/2018 14:06

I really like it.

Frumpy.

Peachbubble · 29/09/2018 10:14

Don't like it I'm afraid - it's very harsh sounding.

I wouldn't even think of Bridget Jones. But it was my dms name and though we loved her dearly none of us could find a way of even giving it to her gks as a second name..sorry!!
In lrish its Brid...prounced Breed but we couldn't even manage that. Most of the male gks have my dads name as second name but not a Bridget in sight.

Really? Bridget who isn’t Bridget I haven’t met many who do. I don’t hate the name but certainly don’t love it

bridgetreilly · 29/09/2018 09:01

no one really loves their own name

That's sad. I love mine (not actually Bridget).

I also really like Edith and quite like Olive, so.

Itchytights · 29/09/2018 09:00

It makes me think of Jones as in Bridget Jones.

It's okay. There are better names imo

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 29/09/2018 08:58

Sorry it's a no from me. It sounds frumpy and harsh, like Edith and Olive. But then I like feminine names so probably best to ignore me!

Bridgetwithoutthejones · 29/09/2018 08:58

Another Bridget here! To be honest I’m not a massive fan of my name, I feel like people do associate it with Jones and that’s not a problem as I love the books and films, but it doesn’t sound nice to me. That’s probably because no one really loves their own name. It’s served me well enough in life

bridgetreilly · 29/09/2018 08:53

Not me!
