I really like this name for a girl, but DH has reservations 😂
What does everyone think?!

It's pretty with a French accent but fairly pedestrian in English.

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 29/09/2018 13:42

It's been popular for years, I still prefer it to Amelia, both are pretty.

ZebraKid71 · 29/09/2018 13:38

It's nice but very popular in my area, often read as amelia.

My sister is an Amelie (32yo) and was the only one I knew for years, it was very uncommon to the point that people either called her amelia and Emily... As a result she's gone by Amy since she was about 7.

MikeUniformMike · 29/09/2018 13:29

I don't like it much. It's said as Ammerly in the UK. Emily is nicer. Amelia is a bit too twee for me but it's better than Amelie.

Floyella · 29/09/2018 12:04

Dull and cutesy. Not a fan.

LeeMiller · 29/09/2018 11:59

A bit twee and cutesy, I think because of the film association.

moredoll · 29/09/2018 05:43

I like the film, but I'm with your DH.

AnnieAnoniMouse · 29/09/2018 02:53

I love it. It’s especially gorgeous with a French accent 👩🏼‍🎨

It’s rather less gorgous with some British regional dialects.

Picknickers · 29/09/2018 02:02

Reminds me of a horrible ex colleague who got sacked for stealing. That's just me though.

elizabetter · 28/09/2018 21:16

Very pretty. So much nicer than Amelia in my opinion

VillageCats · 28/09/2018 20:02

Most people will know it but he should love it too. Try the movie on him.

Beamur · 28/09/2018 20:00

It's pretty but fairly common where I live, also sounds a lot like Amelia (also popular) not as unique as it may have been a ew years ago.

formerbabe · 28/09/2018 19:57

Gorgeous name ..was on my list!

Glumglowworm · 28/09/2018 19:56

I don’t really like it

I prefer Amelia

twoundertwox · 28/09/2018 18:55

I have one Smile
Out of my three is the "least common" in top 100 but the only one that we know of another her age!

Sunflower321 · 28/09/2018 14:24

I find it a little dull around so many Emilys, Amelias, Emilias, Amelies and Millies

Penguinsetpandas · 28/09/2018 14:24

I love the name Amelie, French DH wasn't overly keen.

Cosmoa · 28/09/2018 14:20

I love the film Amelie! So do my best friends and they are naming their daughter Amelie (if they have a girl that is...)

llangennith · 28/09/2018 12:59

It's not an unusual name! I know a few, oldest is 28, youngest is 5.

starsandstuff · 28/09/2018 12:52

It's really pretty.

17caterpillars1mouse · 28/09/2018 12:46

I like it and know a few (one 6 year old and two 2 year olds) but woulf worry it would get lost in a sea of Amelia's

Shadow1234 · 28/09/2018 12:40

Also absolutely love it! Prefer it to Amelia or Emilia tbh.

NonaGrey · 28/09/2018 11:51

I pretty surprised that there are posters who think Amelie is made up! It’s not a particularly uncommon name.

It’s very lovely OP. My DD’s friend was called Millie when she was little bit hoes by her full name now.

gilmoregal · 28/09/2018 11:48

Amelie is lovely, much nicer than Amelia imo.

I know of two, an adult in her 30's and a 7 year old.

GMtoBe · 28/09/2018 11:41

Beautiful name. My daughter is Amelia and was nearly Amelie. One of my friends has a little girl called Amelie and the name really suits her.
