So Florence full name shortened to Ren (or could be Wren). I love it but will take opinions! Please be kind..... x

I don't think she'd ever be called Ren/Wren, it'd be more natural for other people/herself to call her Flo or even Florrie. The name Wren is nice on it's own and a completely different style to Florence IMO.

Wren is a lovely name. Or maybe Renata?
Florence is also, but Ren just doesn't sound like a nickname for it.

This is weird imo. You want to name your dd Florence but not call her that and you hate Flo...

Wren is a completely different name. But if that's the sound you like, name her that.

Honestly, if you have no plans to ever refer to her as Florence, I think you’d be mad to actually call her Florence. Don’t you think it would cause issues? Don't you think she might grow up hating people calling her Florence, because it isn’t her name?

Personally, I can’t imagine having a name on my birth certificate that bears no resemblance to the name I’m known by. But then I think it’s weird when children are given names they never use - my nephew goes by his second middle name, for example.

And, accent permitting, the sound “ren” isn’t necessarily there when people say “florence” anyway, so I maintain it’s a stretch.

But Ren isn't very feminine, though, in my opinion - it doesn't seem to fit with what you like about Florence.

I like Wren. Just so love how feminine Florence is! I'm so annoyed that people call their bloody period 'Aunt Flo' which has ruined 'Flo' for me forever more!

If you never going to use the name Florence why call her it ‘officially’? Wren is lovely.

As previously stated, just name her WREN. That way, there
will be no flo, flossy, florrie etc.

You do not need a longer name that has to be shortened to
Wren, it is a stand alone name, and a verry prettymone at that!

Could you use Renee or Renée instead? That's a name that hasn't been around for a while. You could easily get Ren from that.

No one would be introduced to her as Florence, but as Ren. So no one would call her Flo because that would be random

Nobody's going to shorten Florence to anything but Flo or Flossy.
If you want your child to be called Ren or Wren then think of a name that it's actually a short form of it, or just give that as their name.

Maybe it's because my brother's nickname comes from the centre part of his full name (and I would hazard that he is probably the only one in the world with this name!) that I don't find it 'a stretch' at all.. I do like Wren though

Agree, if it's "Ren" you like then you need to go with Wren or Renee, def not Florence. Ds has a friend called Florence/Florrie - very pretty name but wouldn't call her Ren.

I think Ren from Florence is a bit of a stretch. And if you want to use “Ren” 99% of the time, the fact she’s actually named Florence would probably throw an awful lot of people.

You’d be much better off using Wren.

I personally would name her 'Wren', if you do not like flo, florrie
etc. (Looks nicer than 'ren' )

Wren as a stand alone name is very pretty.

That way, no one (at school/friends) will use the nickname of
Flo, because it has no association with it.

To clarify slightly 'Ren' would be her name and Florence would kind of just be her initials and on passport/birth cert etc. I'm a Charlotte but never ever called that, always Charlie. I just can't stand 'Flo' so maybe I can't use 'Florence' because of that! So sad

Wren is a perfectly substantial name on its own.

Ren doesn't work as a shortening for Florence.

I should say the reason I made the point about nicknames is that neither of my D.C. have chosen to go by the nickname we used. One prefers the full name only and the other an alternative nickname.

As we love their full names and all the short forms that’s not a problem for us but I always think Hmm when an MNer says they with be called this as a nickname, because really it’s not something you can force on your child.

Wren on it’s own is a lovely name, no need for Florence at all.
