I really like both these names for girls-
Opinions on both? Which one sounds better?

it's traditionally thought of as being an unlucky stone so that might put me off.

Okay I just have to ask. How on earth is a stone unlucky? Whose in charge of dishing out the bad luck to people that have an opal?

MyKingdomForBrie · 26/09/2018 22:30

@iris89 thank you!!

AlliKaneErikson · 26/09/2018 22:29

The Pokemon is Onix not Onyx (makes all the difference!).

LaDaronne · 26/09/2018 21:39

I'm onyx like a car bonnix.

catlady3 · 26/09/2018 21:32

"Opa" is grandfather in German. Don't do that to a child.

GlossyGlossy · 26/09/2018 21:21

Onyx is a Pokémon!

needyourlovingtouch · 26/09/2018 21:19

Opal fruits

WhenIWasAYoungWarthog · 26/09/2018 21:18

I used to have a horse called Opal. She was an utter twat.

MikeUniformMike · 26/09/2018 21:17

The refuse company around here is called Onyx. A friend saw lots of nice oynx things on holiday. Opal Fruits made to make your mouth water. How about Oryx?

Tawdrylocalbrouhaha · 26/09/2018 21:16

Actually, the more I think about it the more I like Opal.

Cbeebiesrehab · 26/09/2018 21:14

Pearls are also deemed unlucky btw but hasn’t stopped people using it.

Cbeebiesrehab · 26/09/2018 21:13

I actually don’t think Opal is that out there-rings similar to Pearl to me!

Dontbuymesocks · 26/09/2018 21:08

Neither. They both sound ridiculous. Sorry, but you did ask.

DeathBySnoring · 26/09/2018 21:04

Neither - and opal is my birthstone. Can't say I find opals particularly attractive. The same as Beryl.

Onyx to me is big 1970s/80s ashtrays and cigarette table lighters. A quick Google search will show you.

Please don't. There are so many lovely names you could choose. These two aren't.

daisypond · 26/09/2018 20:46

Opals are traditionally bad luck, so that might put me off.

llangennith · 26/09/2018 20:43

OP: seriously???

NotMeNoNo · 26/09/2018 20:25

My grandmother and I both have October birthdays (opal is the birthstone for October) she left me her opal jewellery so it's special to me. Whether unlucky is hard to judge!

MrsMcW · 26/09/2018 20:01

I don't like either, but opals are traditionally very unlucky so please don't choose that one if it has to be one or the other!

iris89 · 26/09/2018 20:00

@MyKingdomForBrie yeah, that's how it's pronounced! Smile

MyKingdomForBrie · 26/09/2018 19:59

Oh I like Onyx actually! I'm not sure I have the correct pronunciation though.. is it 'O-nix'?

RavenWings · 26/09/2018 19:55

Pearl is popular enough, and Opal isn't that different. Onyx though is not good.

DaisyChainsForever · 26/09/2018 15:54

I like Opal Smile

NotMeNoNo · 26/09/2018 15:42

Both fine, but I'm a geologist! I have a colleague, her DC are Amber and Jasper: fantastic names.

Themidnightcircus · 26/09/2018 15:35

Porn star names

CatkinToadflax · 26/09/2018 15:31

They are both unicorn names.
