I read it as Gail which is a girl's name.

I think Gail from Corrie, which will be a very common association especially if you're in Greater Manchester/the north west.

Gael Monfils would be my first reaction... French male tennis player. So not a problem - would just assume you have some French somewhere in your ancestry.

I know two people named Gaël but both are French. Assuming you are in the UK you might consider Giles? I know it's the British version of Gilles rather than Gaël but it sounds quite similar and doesn't have the same baggage and difficulty with pronunciation in this country as Gael might.

@ROSE2017Rose - mine didn't get any teasing. He has to repeat it several times and some find it difficult, but once they know how to say it, that's the end of it.

Absolute no-no if in Scotland. And yes probably also teased in other parts of Uk (presume pronounced gale/Gail). For me the meaning is to do with Scottish history eh I am a gael /speak Gaelic etc etc (not explained v well, sorry)

I think it looks lovely written down, but there would be likely confusion about pronunciation. I'm an Irish speaker and would pronounce it Gwale, and would take it to mean "Irishman". Is that what you'd intend?
