Alaska for a girl?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
TatianaLarina · 24/09/2018 13:09

Have you been OP?

notacooldad · 24/09/2018 07:57

I like it.

PlatypusPie · 23/09/2018 20:29

Might work if she had a husky voice

ZebraKid71 · 23/09/2018 20:24

The only time I've heard it as a name for a person is in the book Looking for Alaska. It's very sad and not an association I would want for naming a child.

My friends dog is named Alaska, nn Lassie!

That aside, in isolation it think it sounds quite nice.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 23/09/2018 18:41

I like it!

Glumglowworm · 23/09/2018 18:39

I’ve only heard it in the John Green novel Looking for Alaska which isn’t something I’d name a baby after

Cosmoa · 23/09/2018 18:15

I'm a drag race fan so it just makes me think of Alaska Thunderfuck 5000 😂

SilentBob · 23/09/2018 18:05

I agree with the other RuPaul fans. It's not for me.

Enko · 23/09/2018 18:04

I like it Also like Mercedes.

Cheeseplantandpickle · 23/09/2018 18:04

Alaska Thunderfuck.

bonbonours · 23/09/2018 18:03

Sounds like you didn't know how to pronounce and spell Alexa. Sorry.

Notsohorriblehistory · 23/09/2018 18:02

Just awful

ilovechurros · 23/09/2018 18:01

Hideous. Please don’t.

RickOShay · 23/09/2018 17:59

Thanks MrsFezzi
Still quite like Alaska Grin

MollyHuaCha · 23/09/2018 17:54

I know a Mercedes who is lovely.

Alaska... hmm, I really don't see the attraction in it as a name.

But I know people with place names - India, Florence, Chelsea, Adelaide, Milan, Devon, Savannah, Paris.

Maybe I'm not keen on Alaska because I've never heard it as a person name.

MrsFezziwig · 23/09/2018 17:54

GreatDuckCookery I think what RickOShay was trying to point out is that Mercedes is in fact an actual girls’ name - it is very common in Spain. So not at all naff there, although I agree that most girls called Mercedes in the UK are more likely to be named after the car, which is naff.

CaptSkippy · 23/09/2018 17:48

Makes me think of names like Paris, Montana, Blue and other weird celebrity kids names. I don't see the appeal of naming a kid after a place or a thing.

Topseyt · 23/09/2018 17:47

Sorry. I immediately thought half baked too.

crunchtime · 23/09/2018 17:46

Just dreadful
quite quite dreadful

wtf is goin on with the baby name boards lately?
You do all realise that you are naming people don't you?

MikeUniformMike · 23/09/2018 17:45

I was thinking half-baked. Might be quite cute for a husky.

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 23/09/2018 17:43

The car was named after Mercedes, not the other way round

I didn't say it wasn't, I referred to it as it's naff that's all.

Vicky1990 · 23/09/2018 17:42

Don't you like her then?.

LEMtheoriginal · 23/09/2018 17:42

Littlepond · 23/09/2018 17:40

Hanyu · 23/09/2018 17:38
