GreatDuckCookery6211 · 28/09/2018 20:02

Outpinked was quoting the gag!

ElizabethMainwaring · 28/09/2018 19:56

OutPinked - 'half baked idea' gag was the very first reply. (grin)

OutPinked · 27/09/2018 19:44

Half baked idea, sorry.

Grin

I personally love Alaska!

whyamisoconfused · 27/09/2018 12:47

Depends on the surname

PiperPublickOccurrences · 27/09/2018 12:41

These threads always remind me of Wayne and Waynetta Slob, calling their baby Spudulika because it was "egggggs-oooo-tick"

Summerlovin24 · 27/09/2018 12:05

Awful. My son was at school with a girl named cartier. Just as bad

BakedBeans47 · 26/09/2018 21:23

Awful

viques · 26/09/2018 20:25

"Do you know who that is?"

"Not sure. I'll ask her."

Thankyou, Thankyou. I'm here all week.......

Mercedes is a beautiful name in no way on a par with Alaska.

Alaska means “mainland”, why would you want to call your child “mainland”?

LightDrizzle · 26/09/2018 20:18

Dreadful.
Interestingly (I think!) when my 84 year old Mum was little, she played with a terribly, terribly posh little girl from an aristocratic family who was called San Francisco, she will have been born in the early 1930s. I’ve always thought that was a bold choice. My mum idolised her, she was a bit older than Mum; brave, funny and dazzling. Sadly she died of leukaemia very young, in her early 20s or late teens. Mum lost touch well before then but her own Mum heard on the grapevine.

HeronLanyon · 26/09/2018 20:11

Side bar - I think Mercedes particularly with Spanish accent is a very beautiful name. What a shame it’s integrity as a name has been a bit overtaken in non Latino usage when the car marque jumps to kind more quickly . . . Odd how names can morph over the years . . .

3ChangingForNow · 26/09/2018 19:52

Meh it's not too bad.

MadameButterface · 26/09/2018 19:51

I think of drag queen alaska too

Go the whole hog and call her lil poundcake 😁

lifechangesforever · 26/09/2018 19:51

My middle name is Mercedes! FFS.. It's a well respected Spanish name, Hollyoaks ruins everything Envy

RavenWings · 26/09/2018 19:49

If I hadn't heard of the drag queen or dessert, I think on first hearing this name I'd think you were a child pageant mum. No class to it.

CherryPavlova · 26/09/2018 19:47

I’d think of meringue or Sarah Pallin. I wouldn’t saddle a child with it.

purplecorkheart · 26/09/2018 19:38

Not to my taste, I think of a Ms America contestant or a stripper when I hear the name.

Fontofnoknowledge · 26/09/2018 19:36

Just ridiculous and trying waaaay too hard.. your child won't thank you.

KatyaZamolodchikova · 26/09/2018 13:37

I immediately think of Alaska Thunderfuck 5000.

HappyInL0nd0n · 26/09/2018 13:32

Really funny. I heard a guy in the park calling out: 'Alaska. Phoenix. C'mon, it's time for supper.' He was wearing socks & Birkenstocks. My husband and I still laugh about it in a semi-regular basis.

Sorry, OP Grin

Taylor22 · 26/09/2018 12:58

You can't do that to another human.
