Starting with the sound All (as in ball) or Oll (as in old)?

Thank you!

I'm from St Albans, and went to St Albans Girls' School (STAGS).

It's pronounced All, as in Ball.

Notonthestairs · 23/09/2018 14:23

I'm another snorbens resident and I call it All-bun.
St Alban was decapitated not that that should be influence your choice Grin

smashyourglasses · 23/09/2018 14:23

Al Ban like Dr Alban 👍

The first one, as in the place name. I think it's a very nice and underused name.

TheChippendenSpook · 23/09/2018 14:17

Like sweaty, I mean.

TheChippendenSpook · 23/09/2018 14:17

I have a family member called Alan and we pronounce it ol (like the beginning of Oliver) ban.

SweatyFretty · 23/09/2018 14:14

Oll-bun in my accent. I'd pronounce St Albans, St Oll-buns.

MikeUniformMike · 23/09/2018 13:14

Allbun

DollyWilde · 23/09/2018 08:28

Interestingly I know one in his 30s and he is Aw-bun as in the hair colour that is like red.

EthelThePiratesDaughter · 23/09/2018 08:24

A bit like All Bran but without the R and with the emphasis on the first syllable.

Alex3101 · 23/09/2018 08:24

Yeap as above in Snorbans it's pronounced allbun

EthelThePiratesDaughter · 23/09/2018 08:23

All-bun.

RebeccasFront · 23/09/2018 08:16

Like the cereal...

ILoveMyMonkey · 23/09/2018 08:04

Here in snorbens (St Albans) it's pronounced allbun.

Oct18mummy · 23/09/2018 07:54

All ban

ThePricklySheep · 23/09/2018 07:48

We know one who is Al as in Alfred and then bun.

Cbeebiesrehab · 23/09/2018 07:46

Oh see I automatically read it as Al-bun like Albie/Albert/Alfred

NarcolepticOuchMouse · 23/09/2018 01:26

Ol-bun. I think regional accents may be responsible for the differences.

MissLingoss · 23/09/2018 00:57

Like All Bran. Without the r, obviously.

Charm23 · 23/09/2018 00:40

I know of a school using 'Alban' in the name and is pronounced 'All-bun' at least it was in that particular area South East of England

Sophronia · 23/09/2018 00:38

El-bun

PassportBridgetPants · 23/09/2018 00:19

So everyone's as confused as me Grin
