Welsh girls names

DH is half Welsh. We live in England and are unlikely to ever live i Wales, we may visit on holiday though (no family living there).

DHs DGM passed away last year, she had a very Welsh name, but hated it but was very proud of her Welsh heritage and other Welsh names so we would like to honour that.

I'm not keen on Ffion or Carys/ Cerys but do like Seren though realise it is very popular in Wales (never met one myself). Anwen and Tanwen are out though due to family names.

Any suggestions?

We have an Alys too. I wanted a welsh name but DH wanted something easy for his family/ ‘not too welsh’. Took ages to agree. And now we are thinking about baby two and might have the whole argument again.

We've got an Alys. It's only a problem when everyone wants to spell it Alice but I don't mind too much and it really suits DD.

Elin/Elen are nice and easily pronounceable outside Wales I think.

@DickensianHysteric Heulwen is pronounced hail-wen (as in hailstones) not holy-wen

Hoylwen- NO!
I love Mallt, Lleucu, Llio Leusa, Alaw, Fflur Elliw etc but they will not travel.

Sarah Ann said as Sairann (Seran) is cute. Sara is welsh for Sarah and is nice.
Swyn is unusual but not easy to say.

Celyn (which means holly) is one of my favourites. I also love Heulwen (sunshine) but that would be harder for people to pronounce (hoyl-wen).

Gwenno is cute, Heledd is lovely (Hel-eth the th like in the or that not as in thing)
Gwenan (GWEN-nan) is dated.

Menna is nice. Wenna is too. Delyth is nice but it was very popular in the 1960s so a bit dated.
Eleri (el-erry) is nice but will get said as Ellory.
Lowri is nice but will get said as Lowry.

Just to hijack the thread a bit... I see @MikeUniformMike on lots of welsh threads and love seeing them post, especially as someone born and bred in Essex but who moved up to north wales at 18.
