Welsh girls names

DH is half Welsh. We live in England and are unlikely to ever live i Wales, we may visit on holiday though (no family living there).

DHs DGM passed away last year, she had a very Welsh name, but hated it but was very proud of her Welsh heritage and other Welsh names so we would like to honour that.

I'm not keen on Ffion or Carys/ Cerys but do like Seren though realise it is very popular in Wales (never met one myself). Anwen and Tanwen are out though due to family names.

Any suggestions?

We have an Olwen, which never seems to cause pronunciation or spelling issues

Rhian gets called Ree-Anne. Awful. Rhian in welsh is lovely.
Awel is Breeze. I wouldn't.

Mabli is pronounced Mab-lee.

I was born and brought up in Wales so May have more of a fondness for some due to that but I like:

Catrin (and can always be shorted to Cat obviously)
Carys
Rhian (rh-ee-an but I've heard plenty of English people pronouncing it as ree-un which isn't nice imo)
Cadi
Haf (means summer)
Eira (means snow)
Awel

I love Seren (personal meaning to the name) but I am at over the welsh border in England now and I've heard a fair few with the name.

Arwen isn't really welsh - it is from Lord of the Rings. It's sometimes used as a feminine form of Arwyn. It's pronounced Arr-wen. Awen and Alwen are pretty.
Elin is popular in wales and very nice.

Cleoni is Welsh?
Mair is like the english word My but with a r on the end or like Myra without the a.
Mair Evans is pronounced My Revans
Mair is one syllable. Lovely but it will be mispronounced as Mare or My-uh. yuk.
Mai might be easier to live with.

Yes it does have the rolling of the r but my Ex MIL was named it and everyone couldn't get it right so ended up being called mya but I liked it

My great grandmother was called Ceinwen - it means lovely/blessed/fair.

It might be a name ready for revival Grin

I think it is pronounced more like mire but with a more rolling r Stacey but I have never come across one despite living almost my entire life in Wales so am no expert.

I've learnt this the hard way. My eldest has a gorgeous traditional Welsh name that she's forever spelling and pronouncing for people.

I have a “straightforward” 6 letter name which was common in 70s Britain. I have to spell it every time I give it to someone.

As someone with a very Welsh name I have no problem with constantly spelling my name and even chose a hyphenated surname so now I have to spell my entire name. So don't let that put you off, it won't necessarily annoy your child. I constantly get compliments on my name which I love:)

I've said it before but ...
Cariad Lloyd is welsh for Lloyd's Girlfriend.
Cariad can mean Darling, Sweetheart, Love, Charity, Girlfriend, Boyfriend.
Eira isn't Eye-ra, although someone no doubt will come along and argue. It's more like Eh-rah or Ay-ra but the Eh sound is quite short, the a is like the a in cat, not uh.
It's Angharad but will be Ann Harrod or Ann Garrod.

Nest is lovely - it's pronounced Nest or a bit like Neyst. Siriol is Sir-yol, with the i like the i in English words like big, wish etc.
