Last year I pulled a small selection of names that were used for 50 or fewer babies in 2016, which people seemed to enjoy, so I thought I'd do the same this year now the 2017 stats have been released. I'm not fond of all of them, but found it interesting.

Some surprisingly well known and nice names in there! I'm not sad to see the demise of Tegan and Shayla though.

mummabubs · 22/09/2018 17:30

Some good ones on there - thanks OP

Looking forward to seeing the boys list

TamiTayorismyparentingguru · 21/09/2018 21:34

ABC that’s what I did - clicked the link and read table 6. It only went down to 5 on my phone - maybe there’s a problem with viewing it on a mobile

Smoliver · 21/09/2018 21:03

I've just seen some more that I like Grin There are too many great names!

Smoliver · 21/09/2018 21:02

I love Bridget and Ingrid. I also really like Xanthe, Romilly, Heather, Hester, Jodie and Dorothea. There are some really great names here.

MyNewBearTotoro · 21/09/2018 21:01

One of my DDs is Juniper.

Other names I like on the list are Calliope, Dinah, Posy, Susannah and Lorelei.

Will be interested to see the boys names.

GorgonLondon · 21/09/2018 20:52

Danielle? Caroline? Anne? Really?

CallMePea · 21/09/2018 20:48

I love Blair and Cadence!

EthelThePiratesDaughter · 21/09/2018 20:42

Oh yeah, I forgot about Delphine. That's a gorgeous name but I don't want French names for my children.

BertieBotts · 21/09/2018 20:34

Delphine as well.

I loved Orphan Black.

ABCFamily · 21/09/2018 20:30

TamiTayorismyparentingguru - The English & Welsh list goes down to 3 or more, but my opening post is not an exhaustive list by any means!

If you're curious, you can have a look at the link I posted at the bottom of the opening post. From there you'll be able to download the full stats (Table 6 will give you the long list) and do a search for your daughter's name. Alternatively, you can type it in to names.darkgreener.com/, and it'll show you the results between 1996-2016.

Ooh - just looked through the whole list and DD2’s name doesn’t appear at all, so I guess less than 5 (if any) last year. She was the only one born in Scotland the year she was born and the name has only appeared on the Scottish list 4 times since - each year just 1 of them, and spelled a different way than DD’s is spelled. I’ve never seen it on an English/Welsh list, but I wonder if that’s because they only go down to 5 or more.

EthelThePiratesDaughter · 21/09/2018 20:18

Cosima and Katya are both Orphan Black names.

My friend called her baby one of the names on this list but in 2016.

ABCFamily · 21/09/2018 20:15

BertieBotts which ones? I've never watched Orphan Black (it's been on my Netflix list for ages!).

SwayingInTime · 21/09/2018 20:15

I know a Zia, Zipporah and a Zosia! I know lots of the others too and am surprised at some, Camille, Heather and Bridget seem pretty normal but still current for example.

BertieBotts · 21/09/2018 20:09

I noticed some Orphan Black names in there!

ZebraKid71 · 21/09/2018 20:08

Some surprises for me... I know a significant percentage of the Seraphinas and Jocelyns! 😂

EthelThePiratesDaughter · 21/09/2018 20:05

Really surprised some of those are on the list!

DappledThings · 21/09/2018 19:58

I'm on there! And two names we considered for DD.

MrsReader · 21/09/2018 18:32

Bronte and Xanthe 💖
