Hi guys,

We're loving the name Marcus at the moment (I know it's not everyone's cup of tea). I was just wondering how many babies/young kids called Marcus people know? I read an article saying it was going to get more popular this year but I haven't seen much evidence of that...

Thanks!

1, Irish, in his 50s

SumAndSubstance · 23/09/2018 23:16

I’ve taught 4 I think and know a couple of adults too. None of them has been shortened to Marc as a pp feels is inevitable... Hmm. I like it.

PetraRabbit · 23/09/2018 19:18

I know two. One my age (43) and the other late 50s. Both clever opinionated men. I don't come across small Marcuses....I vaguely remember a work colleague some 15 years ago choosing it for her newborn because she was eastern European, the dad was English and they wanted a name that translated well. I like it!

EdWinchester · 23/09/2018 19:12

I know 3 and they are between 45 and 52.

I love the name.

daisypond · 23/09/2018 19:10

Only one adult one - aged about 50. It's a fabulous name.

Laska5772 · 23/09/2018 17:32

DGS is Marcus . he is 5

Leilia · 23/09/2018 17:30

Zero. But then, I don't think I've ever met an adult Marcus either.

greendale17 · 23/09/2018 16:53

Skyejuly · 23/09/2018 16:52

My 5 yr old has a marcus in her class. From poland.

Katjolo · 23/09/2018 16:48

Lovely name. Have only met one young Marcus aged 7 in recent years.

TurtleTree · 22/09/2018 09:55

I love it but not so keen on Marc/Mark, which it would inevitably be shortened to. And then I thought my child would forever have to explain that it's spelled 'Mark with a c'

ZebraKid71 · 21/09/2018 22:03

I don't know any, but I love it, it reminds me of the boy from About a Boy.

Littlestartotheleft · 21/09/2018 20:34

The youngest Marcus I know is 20

RuthW · 21/09/2018 20:32

I know a 7 year old one.

kenandbarbie · 21/09/2018 19:29

I know grown up ones but not children

GraceMarks · 21/09/2018 18:59

There was one a couple of years below me at school, so he'd be in his mid-30s now. I can't remember coming across any others at all! It's a classical name - think Marcus Antonius - and I don't think it will ever age. Definitely go for it!

AuntieUrsula · 21/09/2018 10:25

I know one who's 12

MariaYouveGottaSeeHer · 21/09/2018 09:45

I don’t know any! Not even adults off the top of my head.

DS was nearly Marcus; we were down to this and one other name when I was in theatre. The doctors and nurses steered us towards the other name as it is Irish, as was the surgeon, (and I)!

Anyway, I think it might be getting more popular, based purely on the fact that we nearly picked it and I always seem to pick names which I think are hugely unusual but end up being more popular than I thought! But still not what I’d call a common name. Definitely not.

Watch that film Boomerang. Eartha Kitt purring 'maaaarcus, i havent got any knickers onnnnn'. Thats my contribution to the thread.
