Names ruined by others?

I've always loved the name Ophelia (pans labyrinth).
While discussing it with DH he said the first thing he imagined was a 14 year old boy "I'll feel ya. . . round the back of the bike sheds." Absolutely ruined it for me.
Anybody else?

If we had a boy, I liked the name Rhett. But DH said it sounded too close to rat. Balls does it.

There is a song by one of my favourite bands, Wild Beasts, where they literally sing sexually about an Ophelia and it is “oh Ophelia, I feel ya” so .

Yes! My DP ruined a few names for me. All drug connotations: Elodie (LSD), Charlie (coke), Billy (Billy whizz: speed)

@GoneForFood - I think pronunciation Soraya differs slightly with the accent. I'm of Iranian descent as well, but the Iranian grandparent is no longer here to say if my way is correct or not! However my Iranian friend says it can be either way (rye-ah or ree-yuh), it's just with either an Iranian or British accent. I've seen some really weird spellings of the name though, with h's at the end, random a's and i's all over the place... becoming one of those names people adapt to their tastes I think!

@jumpingjack123 I love the name Soriya (autocorrect tried to change it to Sirius!) but the only one I know pronunces it like. Soh -reeya. I know she’s of Iranian descent so wondering what the correct pronunciation is or if it’s been lost in translation somewhere.

@Cattenberg - I'm a Soraya (so-RYE-ah) and have only ever had one person mention psoriasis, most people say it's pretty (without any prompting!). I admit to feeling miffed when people use it with no link to where it originates, but I think I'm just bitter it's becoming more common

Sorry OP I do think Grayson and Clayton are too similar. Gray and Clay? Hmm.

Kids should be raised and treated as individuals not a matching set. I see it with twins with "matchy" names through a part of my work and always think it's not psychologically healthy for their identities to start off like "half of a whole" rather than as unique people in their own right.
Most of the twins with matchy names I've followed up have invented non matching nicknames for themselves to give them some distinction from the other. They are close as twins obviously to each other (the bond is amazing and so interesting to investigate!) but still like to be seen as their own person.

Where I live it would immediately be shortened to Feelie which is local slang for a person who is "not quite right" shall we say.

A "mean girl" I went to school with was called Sunniva. "Son of a bitch" always sprang to mind...

@lovethebear85 me neither. But my friend got ‘tit-fanny’ (Tiffany) all the time at secondary school.

Another friend got ‘jizzy-bell’ instead of isabelle (know as Izzy) but that’s teenage boys for you.

In my native France, carmaker Renault has ruined the name Clio for pretty much everyone.

I have never had anyone emphasise the "fanny" aspect of Stephanie (speaking as one).

I am off of any names that end in a hard "k" sound (Mark, Jake, Zack etc), as say it too quickly and, as a Hunt surname, it isn't a nice one. Damn you husband!

Good for you! DS3 arrived 2 days ago and I find myself being constantly put off names by others opinion which is making it really hard to pick one! It doesn’t help that we don’t have a firm fave tho.
