Is Aslan too commonly associated with Narnia? My DH loves it but I feel like I'll always think about the lion 😂

My sons pal is called Aslan. His family are from Pakistan so I just presumed the name came from there. I did think of Narnia at first but now it's just his name!!

Makes me think of Australian sign language Known as Auslan.

I taught an Aslan. He was Turkish and VERY proud of his name- must have told me about once a week that it meant lion in Turkish. Nobody thought anything of it really, but then we were in a very diverse area.

If I heard it today, I’d think of that kid before Narnia, but I realise I’ll be in the minority

Sure it's Narnia, but so what? I know children named after TV vampires, characters in superhero films, colours, places, foods. Yes, maybe at first adults might be a bit puzzled, but people soon get used to a name. TBF Aslan is a perfectly nice name.

I know an Aslan - female though. I thought it was a bit weird the first time I met her but you do get used to it!

It's a fairly common male name in Georgia. I also know a few aslans but they're all Georgian. I don't think it works so well in a UK context due to the narnia association.

Aslan in the book is meant to symbolise Christ so another reason to think carefully.
