Is Aslan too commonly associated with Narnia? My DH loves it but I feel like I'll always think about the lion 😂

I know an Aslam. But yeah. Aslan = Narnia. Not a bad thing in itself. But be prepared for the "What' like the lion?" comments forever more

And even if you ARE Turkish, if you live in the UK and intend to stay here, you might want to think very carefully about calling your child any name beginning with ARS....

Kids will find anything to make fun of their friends/enemies about - there's no need to all but do the job for them.

Bertrand If you take that view then you would never name your child anything from, for example, your own culture if you’re not British. Which would be very daft, would it not. People get used to unusual names all the time, it takes about a nanosecond. There are lots of Nigerian families at our school and we have a Princess and a Queen in school. Normal names for Nigerian families, and again, none of the kids bat an eyelid and the parents blink for a second and then move on. But would you say that their parents shouldn’t have used these names?

The Aslan I know is from NZ, a land more accepting of different names.

When you say "you get used to it quickly"- of course you do. But the person called Aslan had to deal with everyone he meets for the rest of his life having to "get used to his name". Call him Peter.

I know an Aslan whose siblings are Hosanna and Jubilee. Definite evangelical Christian associations for me!

I know two Aslans, I think one has a Turkish father and one possibly has Eastern European parents. It’s a common name in some communities.

Obviously I know the narnia connection but it hasn’t mattered really.

Having said that I wouldn’t use it if you have no connection to the relevant cultures, I don’t think it’s a name that has crossed over to mainstream.

Seriously, I never think of any of this stuff when I’m talking to or thinking about the Aslan I know. It’s just his name.

I've met a couple of Aslans (they may not have spelled it this way but that's how it was pronounced). I believe they were both Turkish. I thought it was a reasonably common name amongst some communities? I like it!

If you are from one of the communities in which this is a common name, then go for it.

If not, then I wouldn't because of the Narnia chronicles. Not just because he's a lion, but because he's the allegory of Jesus. Which is also a name that I'd advise against unless you are part of a community where it is is general use.
