finally got a shortlist of names!
looking for opinions as I can't seem to narrow it down further and it's still a bit long.

boys:
darcy
ezra (is this one getting too common?)
marshall
moses

girls:
effie/effy
lainie
lucah
murphy
piper
stella

Murphy for any human being is hideous. Stella and Piper are ok but the others are dreadful.

Ezra is nice. Don't like the others.

For me, Darcy is a girls' name.
Only like Stella from the rest.

boys:
darcy - girls name to me, wouldn't use
ezra - I like it but a bit faddy
marshall - surname , but not bad
moses - sorry, no. Too out there .

girls:
effie/effy - I really like this
lainie - pretty
lucah - no, boys name
murphy - no, surname
piper - love this actually ! Never considered it before
stella - the beer. No

Not overly keen on any of the boys names sorry , Ezra is the best of them. Piper, Lainie and Effie are all lovely

Moses and Piper are my favorites on your list.

I love Ezra but have always felt like it should be a girls name and it is getting quite popular.

I hear of a baby girl Ezri when I was in hospital as she was in the same room as us!

darcy- what if he's not charming or handsome? He'll be teased I think

ezra (is this one getting too common?)- not bad but seems very popular on here!

Marshall- Mathers

Moses- I like it!!

effie/effy- sounds like a pixie name. A bit frilly and childish IMO

lainie- sounds American. I'm not keen

lucah- boys name. Don't like it

murphy - for a girl? No!! It's a dog's name

piper- horrible

stella- lovely! Prefer Estella but Stella is lovely

I LOVE Ezra and Moses. I think Moses is less common, but will be a “marmite” name. My dh wouldn’t countenance it for ds.

I don’t love any of your girl names (sorry - not really my style). My favourite of the liar is Stella though. It’s a nice name and I know two lovely little Stellas. Also like the Streetcar connection.

Darcy - Although unisex it is more popular for girls now.
Ezra - I don't think it's too common. I don't know of any and only heard it on forums so far.
Marshall - I don't know of any.
Moses - I like this.

Effie/ Effy - I quite like. Prefer the spelling Effie.
Lainie - I quite like.
Lucah - I've only heard on boys, but like Lucia for a girl.
Murphy - Not keen sorry.
Piper - I like this.
Stella - I don't like due to a personal association. Only ever met a grumpy old lady with this name, but that's not to say it's not a nice name.

Don't like Murphy for a first name, and not Marshall - I've seen too much Paw Patrol.

Murphy? For a girl? Just no.

Stella is nice, but I don't like the rest of the girls' names. I don't like the boys' names either. Sorry OP, we clearly have very different taste in names.

However, specifically,

I've only every heard Darcy / Darcey used for girls.

Murphy ?? A surname surely (although also the name of a friend's dog).

I'd choose Stella, as the least worst.

My favourites are;
Ezra and Moses for a boy.

Darcy is becoming more of a girls name now (usually spelled Darcey, like Darcey Bussell)

Ezra - depends on your surname

Marshall - ditto. If it's Foch, Earp or Mathers, avoid

Moses - I like it

Effy - I'd go for a full name with Effy as a NN

Lainie - ditto

Lucah - Luca is a very popular boys name in some places now

Murphy - no

Piper - I like it more than I thought I would

Stella - love

Effie needs to be short for something,

Marshall is a lot more common than Ezra round here right now. Moses is also quite common

I'd go for Ezra/Stella
