Are they too similar?

I'm having a girl!

I want to called her Elsie Mae, I love Elsie as it's an oldish name but suits a little one and Mae is my sisters and my boyfriends grandmothers name.

However my boyfriends niece is called Kelsey - Mae, I feel like they are too similar especially as K-M is currently the youngest.

Any help? Are they too similar?

Is anybody else familiar with the White Heater Club - particularly the annoyingly catchy song about Andy MacKay and Sandy MacKay?!

Any time I heard even one of them mentioned in a family context, I'd be internally singing "I'm Elsie-Mae, I'm Kelsey-Mae, twa Heiland lasses are we!"

How about Elise rather than Elsie. I think it's much more elegant and less childish and cutesy.
Definitely not Mae. It's so popular as a middle nowadays, it's today's Louise. How about Faye?

I really wouldn't personally add Mae to a name. There are loads of them. Perhaps you could choose May as the first name?

Ruby Mae, but just keep the Mae (was it not May?) because it has a family connection. Don't use as a double barrelled name, Mae has been done to death.

Nothing wrong with Elsie on its own but if you like ‘older names’ - Kitty, Lucy, Lilly, Freya or Esme?

Two years ago in reception at my kid’s tiny school there’s were several double barrel Mae names.

If you want similar names then Elspeth, Eliza (as suggested by a PP), Eleanor, Ellen, Emmeline, Emily or Elsa (if you're not bothered about Frozen) could work well. Elizabeth has tons of nickname options for a little one but is a good name for an adult as well.

If you want something old fashioned and it doesn't have to be similar, how about Louisa, Lydia, Mary, Clara, Rose/Rosie/Rosa, Florence, Anna/Anne/Annie, Frances, Amy, Cecilia?

Err, you're kind of missing the point, which is that Elsie Mae, as well as being too similar to Kelsey Mae, is about as bland in 2018 as Sarah Louise was in 1985.

No, Sarah and Tara do not rhyme at all.
Sara and Tara could rhyme, depending on how you say Sara (ie like Zara would rhyme with Tara, like Sarah would not rhyme with Tara)

Cousins called Kelsey Mae and Elsie Mae? Everyone will be laughing, its pretty bad.

I wouldn't do anything Mae though, its so overused.
