Rate my combos - long list!

Me again! I’m giving up and going back to square one. This is our original list of combos - would you be so kind as to rate them and state which of them you think best fits with siblings Aurora, Violet & Theo please. Irish middle names as DH is Irish and we’ve sort of created a theme there lol. Thanks... Warning it’s a long one so really, thanks lol.

@EthelThePiratesDaughter That would be a lovely connection! I’m due March 2019 however lol. We’re hoping to find out genders in 2 weeks which will help too... Fingers crossed they play ball! If not, I guess it’s best to wait for the 20 week scan.

If it's before the end of 2018 I would definitely pick Emmeline for a girl, because 2018 is the centenary of the Representation of the People Act.

Maybes:
Alexander, Arthur, Dominic & Sebastian - The two A names are big maybes.

G: Beatrix, Cecily, Elodie, Emmeline, Penelope & Phoebe

Maybes:
Edith, Esmée, Felicity, Florence, Frances Imogen, Margot & Primrose

I think I’m going go to have let go of Elwood too as it’s just too out there. I’m going to flutter my lashes at DH and hopefully we can get a hamster or something so I can still use it lol.

@RickOShay It’s my all time favourite boy’s name!

I love them all but there are certain names that I don’t want to take off the list despite knowing they have their issues (for us) They are Frances, Margot, Primrose, Winter, Eloise, Esmée, Imogen, Florence, Cecilia, Felicity, Evangeline, Arthur, Elwood, Miles, Dominic, Alexander and Otis. Not necessarily my favourites but ones I’m struggling to lose lol.

Yes i like the o motif
Ophelia is beautiful, and obviously has the o sound.

Thanks @RickOShay, it’s good to hear we’re on the right track! Margot is one I’m worried about, especially as it’s one of my personal favourites... Margot and Theo is probably a few too many O sounds where as I’ve been thinking of it as Margot & Theodore or Theo and Maggie. I have just noticed all the DC’s have the O sound (as pointed out by PP lol) though so maybe we can get away with it. It took us a while to notice the matching inner syllable in A & T’s names too but didn’t care as he is Theo 99% of the time anyway lol.

I like that Primrose is another unusual flower name. My lovely sil liked it for her dc3 but she had a boy, it’s a name that grew on me.

@RickOShay There are a few I’m worried will be a bit more ‘out there’ / will date... Winter and Primrose, mainly... They’re not as traditional as our other children’s names so might stand out more. Saying that, I don’t think many see Aurora’s name as I do and instead think of it in the same way as those names especially with its rising popularity in the UK/US... It’s climbed here, in Ireland, since we named her (6 and a half years ago) but it’s still not above the top 200.

@finallychangedmyusername Completely unintentional and not something I’ve even noticed lol... I have noticed I like a lot of names with O in them however.

@moredoll My husband is Irish and we live in Ireland. It started off as using honour names (DD has the Irish form of my nan’s bane and DS, a family surname on DH’s side) then DD2’s middle is just an Irish name I’ve always loved and what we considered for DD1’s first. I feel like it would be weird not to continue. I love them though... I must admit it took me a while to get my head around but it’s second nature to me now - I’ve picked up quite a lot in the 15 years I’ve been with DH!

tbh I'm not a big fan of Gaelic names unless you are Gaelic speakers. Too many problems with spelling.

OP I don't know whether it was intentional or not but you also have an O theme with your existing DC - all have an O in the middle of their names.
Elodie would fit nicely with this theme, as would Hermione.

@clairelee17 I absolutely love the Irish names, Tadhg especially, but we have sort of started a theme with middle names... They are all Irish lol. I think it’ll be odd to have 3 with non Irish firsts then 2 with lol.

Hi @pixielou,

On looking at the girls' names alone, you seem to have Roisin quite a lot as the middle name - why don't you consider it as a first name? It's very pretty!

Also, for the boys' names, again, Tadhg features quite heavily as a middle name. Would you consider that as a first name instead? My husband is called Tadhg, and I think it's so rare and wonderful. It would certainly stand out from the first names you've chosen and it is becoming more popular. If my husband wasn't called Tadhg, I would definitely choose it for our baby on the way (if it was a boy, of course!). Also, there's a version of it called Thady as well....

Calliope (too weird and doesn't fit)
Elodie (ditto and thing Eloise is much nicer)
Lucia (Italian and so clashes imo with Violet which is more English)
Seren (quite weird and not a fan)
Winter and Williw (will date- v faddy)

I think all the other ones are lovely. We have similar taste in names!

Are there any names that you’d cross out as they don’t work with sibling names? We’re definitely sticking not initial sharing so Arthur and Alexander are out. A is sometimes Rora, V is sometimes Letty and Theo is almost always just that but has the longer form on his birth certificate... Don’t know if that helps, thinking about the most common shortened forms of these, given that these two will probably also get shortened. DD2’s middle is also Niamh so I’ve been wary of using another Eve name. My middle name is also Louise so, as much as we love it, I feel a bit narsasistic using Eloise lol. Thanks!

@ConsiderHerWaysAndOthers Yeah, Iona is more Scottish but still, it’s Gaelic and has Irish connections so it counts - in my eyes anyway lol. I agree with initials and wouldn’t even consider it if it was for another girl... I love loads of A names that are now completely out.
