Is this name any good?! Any bad characters with this name/ any reasons against it?

Friend is drawing a blank with girls names and has two weeks until she gives birth! This is her only name and wants feedback...

I like it :) only ever heard of one

I would also pronounce it Lee-OH-nee

Sunflower321 · 10/09/2018 21:19

Freida Confused that would be pronounced Fry-da?!

pumpkinyael · 10/09/2018 20:37

I really like Frieda but Freida is also beautiful. Eira is really nice :)

She might also like Freyde.

Notmyrealname85 · 10/09/2018 20:16

Thank you all so much :) Her other girls names are Freida and Eira...

It makes me think of Leona Edminston.

pumpkinyael · 10/09/2018 20:08

I've met quite a few. Which is probably why it seems dated and boring to me... (I'm not from the UK)

I prefer Leona but Leonie isn't a "bad" name.

AnElderlyLadyOfMediumHeight · 10/09/2018 19:55

Massively popular name atm over here in Germany (where it's pronounced, roughly, 'Lay-oh-nee', with fairly equal emphasis across syllables - slightly more on the first and third).

How about Leonora?

FabulousTomatoes · 10/09/2018 19:51

I love it and it would be on my shortlist if I were expecting a baby Smile

Glumglowworm · 10/09/2018 19:50

I only know one who is a teenager

I like it!

EthelThePiratesDaughter · 10/09/2018 16:53

I like it.

Icklepup · 10/09/2018 16:16

I like it

silverliningsa · 10/09/2018 16:13

Love it!

AhoyDelBoy · 10/09/2018 15:39

I’m in the minority here, can’t stand it Blush

SuperstarDJ · 10/09/2018 13:47

I know one Leona. I can’t decide tbh if I prefer Leonie or Leona - probably Leonie.

autumnmoon · 10/09/2018 11:32

Big fan of this name! It's lovely.

LeeRoar · 10/09/2018 09:11

This happens to be my name Smile while working in a shop one day with a name tag on I had a Milhouse from the Simpson's moment with a customer who was pleasantly surprised to meet someone else with the same name. That's the only other time I've met another Leonie - was convinced my mother had made the name up. I didn't like my name growing up but I feel it suits me now!

B00kworm86 · 10/09/2018 08:45

I have a very very similar name, and I love it! I very rarely meet another with my name, and I always get compliments.

PassportBridgetPants · 10/09/2018 08:39

*if

PassportBridgetPants · 10/09/2018 08:39

My Leonie thread from a few weeks ago I'd you want more opinions Smile

Read georgette heyer “these old shades”...fabulous name!!!

Cbeebiesrehab · 10/09/2018 07:36

I’ve only ever met one (girl I used to teach) pronounced Lee-OH-nee. Lovely name with the added bonus of not being too commonly used. Don’t like it shortened to ‘Lee’ though.

Sunflower321 · 10/09/2018 07:03

I know 2, both pronounced LEH-onie, with the emphasis on first syllable. I quite like it.

serendipitintea · 09/09/2018 23:30

The only one I've ever met was a thiefSad

Essexgirlupnorth · 09/09/2018 23:14

It's my sister in law's name but never met anyone else with it. She uses the nickname Leo

MadMaryBoddington · 09/09/2018 23:10

I know a middle-aged Leonie. She’s a strong character who has forged a very successful career in a male dominated industry. I like and respect her massively. But her name has never seemed to suit her somehow - it sits a bit twee on her.

Not a fan.
