They are both great variations. And I really wouldn't worry about people thinking whatsoever about Jakub 😉

I love Jakub, DD is Zosia and it’s amazing how difficult it has been for DH’s family to get their head around it 🙊 so just make sure your family are well briefed about how you would like it pronounced 😊

If you're pronuncing it the Polish way then Jakub, nickname Kuba (very cute). If the surname is Polish too you could choose a British middle name as a nod to your heritage.

Jacob but with a traditional Polish middle name (reflected in the spelling). At least imo :)

I would go for the Polish version as Poland is way more monocultural than UK, and if he is called 'Jacob' it would be pron by his Polish relatives as 'Yatsub'.

If he has a polish surname I would go with the English first name. And vice versa.

That way his mixed heritage is represented.

Conker, there’s a couple pronunciation videos on YouTube but I think this Polish guy giving lessons in Korean pronounces it clearest

I work with a grown up Kuba, I'd go for Polish spelling as your DH is Polish.

I meet loads of kid because of my job.
I wouldn't struggle to pronounce Jakub. I like it when kids have names tying in with their with cultural heritage.

But it is a very personal choice.

I work away from my own home country and have had my (correct) pronunciation of names from there corrected by parents who have appropriated them which made me internally grimace so I would avoid the polish spelling & English pronunciation.

Child will have to get used to mispronunciation though although most people get it when you correct them.

I’m in the UK but to me it’s patently obvious that this is a foreign name not a made up spelling. Anyone who can’t figure that out is really not worth your consideration. I don’t think there’s an issue with spelling it wrong as if you’re using the Polish pronunciation then people would not automatically presume the spelling ‘Jacob’ anyway, they’ll just ask. And I’m not sure what this obsession is with never having to spell your name on here anyway. I have a now fairly common name and still have to spell it all the time. It’s not that hard. Go with Jakub, much more interesting!

If you're going to be pronouncing it in the Polish manner then spell it that way.
Jacob sounds nicer to me though
Jakub makes me think of Yakult.

I once worked with the most lovely little boy called Jakub; please choose this! It's nice to honour his Polish heritage, and it's hardly difficult for English people to pronounce, even if they've never heard it before.

He will be going to school in UK, but there is always a possibility we relocate to Poland at some point. I'm very inclined to go with Jakub, pronounced Yakub, nickname Kuba Smile

I'm actually English and my DH is Polish. I've managed to pronounce Polish names with no trouble. I'm aware some people will think it's a 'yoonique' spelling, but it's not, so that's pretty irrelevant to me actually.

The point some have made regarding always having his name misspelt is something to consider, but my name is forever being misspelt, and really, it's a minor irritation and I like my name.
