Thoughts on the name Winifred? I didn't like it at first but it's growing on me as a classic but underused name.
Would be known as Winnie.

I love it and know two under ten. Both are known as Winnie.

(You must know quite a few very silly teachers, Redexpat).

Really? It's the thought process of every single teacher I know! Any children with the same name that are younger than your own children dont really affect it though - by that point your Oliver is the most important.

As much as I don't like the name i would not discount a name simply because a little girl was mean or whatever.

I have a son called Oliver and remember being at a party and there was a really naughty little boy there with the same name ( mine is 15 ) and I didn't suddenly dislike the name due to the behaviour of someone with the same name. What a strange thought process!

Have only met one. She's a brownie. Has little to no sense. Eg shouted 'hey you whose mother died' to get the attention of a 6yo whose mother had died the month before. So no I dont rate the name.

I personally like it, but you’re always going to have people who don’t - so it just depends how much you want other people to like it too! 🙂

No (though Freddie is a sweet nickname for a girl).

To me, Winifred is the tall girl in Ballet Shoes with the ugly old brown velvet dress who was talented but never looked right for the part.

Comes under the 'trying too hard' category of naming. Don't do it. She'll be grateful to you one day... unless your alternative is Ethelreda!

3 years ago I’d have said NO WAY, now I’m best friends with a Winnie and she’s great. I now love the name, although I remember secretly sniggering when she first introduced herself Grin

I know a Winnie in her late 70s and one in her late 80s.
Fern Britton and Phil Vickery's daughter is a Winnie. And there's the broadcaster Winifred Robinson
Winifred (Gwenffrewi) was a welsh saint.
I think it is lovely. Freda/Freddie/Win could be alternative nns.

No. It's awful. It's a very unattractive and harsh sounding name, and Winnie is no better.

My Grandma was Winifred, Winnie for short.

She lived to the grand old age of 100!

A beautiful name.

Like and not sure at the same time.

Winnie makes me think of the so sweet and adorable girl in The Wonder Years.

Win is an old lady's name but sort of cool at the same time.

Winifred sounds very Old English, in the same way as Matilda, Elinor and um Ethelred. Great if you want to acknowledge an ancestor called Fred though.

I actually really like it (it was my grandmother’s middle name). Although my current favourite is Phyllis.

I just couldn't imagine looking at a beautiful squishy newborn and being told her name
Is Winifred. If you do name your baby this then expect lots of awkward silences or fake attempts at how lovely it is.

I know lots of the older names have been revived but some have not. And for good reason.
