Is Grace too popular?

I'm in the SE UK, for context.

We've loved the name Grace for years but since becoming pregnant I've noticed it has become more popular in recent years and I imagine it will continue to be.

Why do people think? If we go with Grace will she be one of a number in her class at school or is it not as overused as I'm imagining?

My dd is 9 and I am pretty sure it was the most popular name when she was born (or possibly number 2!) but think it must have peaked then, as hear it far less now for younger children.
It's a nice name, but I would worry if child is not likely to be graceful!

I like it. Was the name of my grandmas next door neighbour when I was growing up. She was such a lovely old lady that I’ve always thought I might use it if I have a girl.

I don't mind using a name on the wane of popularity but wouldn't want to choose a super popular of the moment name.

Also as it's been popular for a while and more so a few years ago it's unlikely to have a surprise boom in 2019.

I have a Gracie (Grace for when she’s being official!) I think it popular but it’s lovely x

I know a few Graces - but they are all in their 20s or very late teens. So it seems to be the peak for Grace was 20 years ago now. I'm in London. Maybe it's different elsewhere. It certainly seemed quite a fresh name then.

That's how you read it, doesn't mean you are correct. I also took it as "Grace is so generic I wouldn't have any particular stereotype attached". Bit like Ella in that way.

I think saying you "wouldn't expect too much from a child" purely based on their name is pretty nasty. It's not the same as saying a name is bland at all.

twofalls sorry to put my foot in but surely what sessy19 meant was that they found the name bland, and it therefore didn’t create an image when said but remained meh. Nothing too bad if you ask me

My daughter is Grace, she's 2 and I hardly know or hear any others with the name. I worked in childcare for 11 years before having her and never knew a Grace!
I love her name, really suits her 😍

Just to add I think Chaz’s baby in Emerdale is going to be called Grace unless I am mixed up. Given the story line I don’t think this will increase the popularity of the name .

I have 3 friends either just had or expecting a baby girl shortly and 2 have chosen Grace. They don't know each other, I assumed it's had a big comeback but might just be coincidence.

It’s not just the number of other Graces in her school year though.

As a mega-popular name, it has now lost its identity. It’s just a dull, samey, unimaginative and watered down name.

I would have no expectations of anyone called Grace.... of course, that is my opinion, not necessarily shared 😬 Also. I’ve never known the appeal. Grace=Grease. Bleugh.

Seems to be everyone’s middle name, along with Rose and May, but not many have it as a first

3 in my 11 year old year but can't think of any in my 9 year olds. So perhaps on the wane? It's a lovely name that I don't think you can go wrong with? Can't be spelt oddly etc

I like the name Grace. I think its a nice clean cut name with a bit of
Sophistication. Cant really be shortened to another name u wouldnt

I have a Grace. There were two in her primary school (over 309 kids) and 2 in her year at secondary school (270 kids).

I still love it

I think it's very boring and overdone as a middle name (e.g. Ava Grace, Lucy Grace, Laura Grace), but as a first name it's not too popular and rather nice.
