final two baby girl names

I was wondering which baby girl name some of you prefer out of these two. I’m trying hard to pick one but it seems impossible at the moment 😪. They are Genevieve and Elizabeth. For Genevieve we would use the nicknames Evie, eve, neve, Ginny, Gia. Since gen/genny are such a disservice to the name, and for Elizabeth it would be Elle/Ellie/ & Lily since we don’t like the nns Beth, betsy, Betty, Liz, Libby, all of those.

So we’re really torn on which one to pick. What do you guys think?

You pick a name because you love it, not because of it's nicknames.
Nicknames evolve naturally over time. My DD has different nicknames from different people, ones that you would never have thought of.

But mainly she is called by her full original name (classic 9 letters).

Genevieve and Elizabeth are both lovely names that will stand the test of time. (I know over 50 Ellie's btw).

If you want the nickname Ellie or Elle, go for Eleanor? However Ellie is most definitely a name in it's own right, in fact it's very high up in the rankings. If you want Lily go with Lily. If you want Evie go with Evie. You're never going to have full choice over her nn, so if you pick Elizabeth you'd better be happy for her to come home from school one day wanting to be called Beth, or Libby.

Speaking as an Elizabeth, this isn't going to happen. You might be able to get away with Elle or Ellie, but Lily is too contrived in 2018.

I would also be surprised if a Genevieve didn't immediately get Gen/Gennie/Genna, but you might have better luck pushing the others than you would with Elizabeth.

My name is Elizabeth - I have always loved it. My parents deliberately chose it thinking there were so many shortenings I would be able to choose my own without any trouble (they called me Elizabeth until I could talk). I am a Lizzie - I hate Liz and Libby, sorry. I’ve never had another Elizabeth in my class, only occasionally met another Lizzie, almost all spelling it Lizzy.

Elle/Elly - people will presume she’s Eleanor/Elena; Lily - not a fan, bit of a waste to call her Elizabeth and not use it.

Ps I don’t understand the use of nickname on here - to me a nickname is not related to your actual name - eg I knew of someone who got called Travel because he looked like a smaller, ‘travel’ version of his brother. To me something based on your name is almost always a shortening. I know the abbreviation ‘nn’ is convenient, but a misnomer to me!

If you don't like Liz/Lizzie, and want the nickname Ellie, then go with Eleanor as a full name.

I don't think you can go wrong with those names.

Your nicknames seem like different names, though. I know people use Evie for Genevieve, but it always seems a bit crowbarred in as Evie got popular to me. I know it's in there technically, but it seems like calling Natasha Ash or Benjamin Minnie. If you love Evie - or Elle or Lily, use those names

I would go with Genevieve and shorten to either Ginny or Evie.

Elizabeth is lovely but I know a few little girls called ‘libby’ all shortened from Elizabeth- it’s much more common

Elizabeth. Not keen on Genevieve or any of the nns.
If you are going to call her Evie/Ellie/Lily etc, just put that on the BC.

I like both names haha 😅 I was just sharing the nns that would be used for them. I’m not picking the names based on the nicknames. I was just saying the nns that would be used. 💓

Well, it would have been Elizabeth until you said you’d call her Ellie or Lily - both of those are very overused at the moment & neither is a good nn for Elizabeth
Genevieve is lovely, but not using the nn Ginny (that’s is better as a nn for Virginia) and Evie is way too popular. Would you be pronouncing the “English” way (Jen-a-veeve) or the french way? Would you consider Vee or Veeve as a nn?
Why not chose a lovely name that you like as is without trying to make up a nn that

You can't control what the nickname will be, she may choose one that you don't like.

Elizabeth is deathly dull and Ellie etc names are overdone. I'd go for Genevieve.

I prefer Genevieve. Though apart from Ginny none of your nicknames seem to fit/match the longer names especially the nicknames that you’ve chosen for Elizabeth.

I'm not one for having an 'official name'. I'd never give mine a name on their BC if I wasn't going to regularly use , just my opinion .

But of the two I prefer Genevieve , NN Ginny is really cute

I love the name Elle on its own though
