What do people think? It's Welsh for star. DH is 1/4 Welsh, his grandmother (most beloved and now gone) had a very welsh name which she hated but we'd like to honor her in some way.

I have 2 Serens and 2 Serenas in my class this year, but there aren't many other Serens in the school.

Wondering what the GMum's unliked Welsh name is.... Buddug?

I have several Welsh friends no longer living in Wales with pets named this as a nod to their heritage so it is an animal name for me.

That aside, I do like the sound of it and it looks pretty written down.

I am a teacher in Wales and in nearly 20 years I have only taught 3 Serens. So it may seem popular but in my experience it isn't. It is a lovely name x

If you're outside of Wales then I'd go for it.
If you're in Wales be prepared for there to be other Seren's in your child's class.

I think it's a lovely name though, but I'm welsh so many biased.

Very popular name in Wales now, but a couple of generations ago was only mainly used for cows!

I'm a welsh speaker, be aware that the English/welsh pronunciations are not exactly the same. Welsh is better.
Rolled r
Second e is exactly the same as the first one- both like the e in egg.

English speaker tend to pronounce it like Serun rather than Seren.

I was actually going to call my daughter Lydia as it was my GM middle name, when I suggested this too her I was greeted with " Oh what an awful name! I hope too god you don't name her that! "....my response....😳..." but it is your middle name, how can you call it awful?"....GM " never have liked it nor will I ever , it is awful!"
So I named her HONAH (pronounced Honour)...she liked that!
Anyways my friend was pregnant with a girl and she had the name Faith right the way through her pregnancy, she gave birth rang me and told me she decided Lydia instead, ( never said what my thought of it didn't Chris my mind) so I was out shopping in local shops with GM, seen my friend with baby, GM asks what you did you name her?....me🙊...friend tells GM Lydia!...to which she responded " What a awful name, poor kid!"...🙈...oh that moment we're you want the world to swallow you up!...Thank god my friend just bursted our laughing ...and thought my GM was cool at honest she is...🙈...

My GM has passed now and apart of me does wish that I should of put Lydia as her middle name at least..😢...but she would of detested it!..🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

I know a Seren she is my daughters class at school, her mum is welsh and it is a beautiful name 🤩

It’s Soreen malt loaf. And Seren is a completely different sound.

I think there have been several threads about the name here recently.

It’s a pretty name. But very popular, both in Wales and along the border. It’s a bit ‘Megan’, but it’s pretty.
