Pronouncing Aaron

I’m in the UK, in the suburban South, for reference.

How would you pronounce Aaron? Is it AH-run, or AIR-run?

I’m not bias in either direction, just interested to know. I like the name.

Growing up it as Airon but now all children seem to be ahrun and the first time I came across it and mispronounced it I got strongly told off by the dad who did not seem to accept the the other pronunciation was legitimate and that it was a simple mistake.

I am in Scotland.

SE and would pronounce it to rhyme with Karen

Suburban south east here, too. I have taught loads of Aarons. Without exception, they have pronounced their name Arron to rhyme with Karen. I had never even heard of an Air-on until MN quite recently-it sounds very strange to me!

Air-on, raised in NE, lived in lots of parts of England. Now in deepest Devon.

Never heard it as ah-run - would expect to spell that Arun.

South Yorks and I’d say it to rhyme with Karen so Ah-run for me. Not keen on the air-un pronunciation.

Ah-run, NE raised, living in midlands. Had a friend in uni (midlands) named Aaron (Ah-run as he pronounced too) he was from Warwick. Never heard Air-run.

I pronounce it Ah-run (I'm in Dorset) but I know someone called Aaron who pronouces it Air-ron but I have to admit I don't like that pronounciation.

Well up here in Scotland, the locals tend to pronounce it “Arron” to rhyme with Karen, which ruins my corny biblical joke:
How do we know Moses wore a wig?
Because sometimes he was seen with Aaron (‘air on) and sometimes without!

I'm in Scotland, know 3 Aaron's (and 1 Arran).

1 Aaron is pronounced Airon the others are Ahrun.

TFSRM · 02/09/2018 18:56
