Pronouncing Aaron

I’m in the UK, in the suburban South, for reference.

How would you pronounce Aaron? Is it AH-run, or AIR-run?

I’m not bias in either direction, just interested to know. I like the name.

Apparently the AH-run pronounciation can be attributed to Elvis Presley....who was christened Elvis Aron, but changed the spelling to Aaron by deed poll and still pronounced it the ‘Aron’ way.

Aaron originated from Aharon (Hebrew), but the Greeks dropped the ‘h’. So it’s not a british name. It’s used across Europe, and as many countries use one pronunciation as the other. So no one is right or wrong. Sorry mumsnet mafia!! 😂

Im danish, and the Danes would pronounce the Aa like arrow. But I live where it might also be pronounced as air....

Until I was told otherwise, I'd pronounce Aaron as Air-un.

There were two Aarons in my DS's class at school, one pronounced Air-un, the other pronounced Arrun. To add to the confusion, there was an Arran as well.

Ah-run north east and have a friend called Aaron in London (where I live) and everyone calls him Ah-run

It was always pronounced as Air-un (like the spelling) as a Biblical name and in my childhood (early 50s now) I never heard any other pronunciation unless it was the South Asian name Arun. However, the Arr-un pronunciation seems to be more common now. I don't know if it is a US pronunciation that has moved over here or just an adoption by analogy with other names like Darren, Karen, Sharon etc.

I have an Aaron.
Caused a bit of a debate when we were deciding on a name, I’d have pronounced it Air-on (west of Scotland) DH pronounced it Ah-ron (Irish) we were living in Edinburgh at the time and the general consensus was Ah-Ron so I was happy enough to go with that.
Now we live in the west and most people who see it written down usually say Air-on until corrected. To complicate matters further, we live very close to the island of Arran 😂
I do love the name though and difference in pronunciation is a really insignificant part of our lives

Air-ron. I've always assumed the Ah-ron pronunciation is American/Australian.

Air-ron is right.

If you want a different pronunciation, use a different spelling.

I had a friend at school in South Yorkshire who was Aaron - air-ron. But usually if I'm speaking of the Bible figure I'd say A-ron. Strange never thought about it before!

Sons name. Air-on, after his gg grandfather born 1880. Obviously also Air-on.

To me Ah-Ron is spelt Aron.

I always thought the correct pronunciation was Airon and that maybe the American pronunciation had found its way across the pond.

I know an Arran and an Aron which make it easy to identify the pronunciation although it doesn’t help if the name isn’t written down.

I like both pronunciations. I’m on my 30s and I’ve known quite a few AH-runs my age, older and younger. I’ve met 2 AIR-uns, also similar age to me.

But it’s not as popular as it was. That’s why I like it. It wouldn’t offend me if someone mispronounced it, so it’s a possibility on the list...

To me it's air Ron but I know a few spelt like that who say arun. Very confusing

SE London and I only ever heard Air-run. Over the last years Arran/
Ahren seemed to appear.

It will always be Air-run to me.
