Pronouncing Aaron

I’m in the UK, in the suburban South, for reference.

How would you pronounce Aaron? Is it AH-run, or AIR-run?

I’m not bias in either direction, just interested to know. I like the name.

I've heard it both ways.

The boy who had the name at my school was the son of a Rabi (also grandson) and they pronounced it Ah-ron. I tend to think that, it being a Hebrew name, that's probably the 'correct' pronunciation...

There've been so many people using each of the three (also heard are-ron) pronunciations for so long now I think they've all become equally valid! It's like Evelyn/Mia - you just check which pronunciation the individual prefers.

I used to think it has a long A but where I live, Scotland, it seems to be a short one. I once confused someone by asking if she had name her Aaron (with the Ah run pr.) after the Scottish Island.

I am a high school teacher in Scotland I teach 4 Aaron’s I just ask them which pronounicarion they use when I first meet them. Currently I have 2 of each.

Akron to me as it's a double a . I have a relative pronounced ah Ron and his mum had to tell us all how she wanted it pronounced

Lived in outer London for 20 years and knew a few Aarons .. without exception it was prounonced to rhyme with Sharon

Went to school with one and he was air-on. He used to get fucked off if people pronounced it Arron and said his name would be spelt with two R’s if it was Arron. Inclined to agree.

Air-run. I’m from London and have only become aware of people pronouncing it Arron in the past few years. To me, Arran is a different name.

Ah-ron/Ah-run is nice. Never heard of the air-ron pronunciation in Ireland, don't like it at all. That would equal Erin to me as said above.

I'm from SE England. Would pronounce it AH-run. Never heard anyone from my area say air-run.

My ds is Aaron, pronounced the correct biblical way, and people pronouncing it Arran drives me nuts, as it sounds nowhere near as nice. Unfortunately, I think this has become a common way of (mis) pronouncing the name in recent years. I would also quote the joke about Moses being bald (sometimes seen with Aaron and sometimes not!) as proof of correct pronounciation! Also, for those who ever watched Only Fools and Horses:
You can't call him Aaron, he'll get called g string - Aaron the g string.
(Clearly I have spent too much time amassing evidence...)
If you want Arran, spell it Arran, like the island!

Aaron pronounced the same way as Karen, Sharon, Baron. From the westcountry here.

I am in the SE and would say it to rhyme with Darren, Karen and Sharon.
If someone said Air-un I would think they meant Erin.

Aaron is AIR-RUN and Arron is AH-RUN here in Scotland. I know people of both names and that is how they pronounce them.

Only ever heard it pronounced Ah-run (I'm in the SW of England).
