Predictions for 2017's top names

Lallypopstick · 01/09/2018 20:19

The ONS usually publishes data on the top baby names of the last year around this time (last year the data was published 20th September and the year before it was 2nd September).

Any predictions about what might top the chart or be the new climbers? I think Theo might break the top 20 (29th last year) and Arlo won't be far behind (49 last year). And maybe an increase in Meghans because of Meghan Markle (apparently only 881st last year). I was also wondering about Ariana after the Manchester bombings and One Love concert.

Any others?

Smoliver · 17/09/2018 21:51

Oh, I also think that Jessica will fall out of the top 10 too!

Smoliver · 17/09/2018 21:49

My predictions...

I can't imagine Oliver and Olivia being knocked off the no. 1 spot. Ava will definitely rise higher than 5th place I think. Maybe to number 3? I also think Charlotte will come into the top 10. Same for Oscar, with Henry rising but just missing out on the top ten.

Boys rising:
Oscar
Henry
Arthur
Theo
Freddie
Dylan
Finn
Rory

Girls rising:
Ava
Charlotte
Ivy
Alice
Elizabeth
Luna
Eva
Orla
Felicity

Boys falling:
James (mainly because I hear more people use it for a middle name rather than a first)
Harvey
Joshua
Daniel
Aaron
Tyler

Girls falling:
Amelia
Emily
Emma
Holly
Molly
Leah
Daisy
Amber

Paul & lally Thank you.

RoseAdagio · 16/09/2018 11:48

Prediction for next year - Harry will be number one due to the combination of Harry Kane doing well in the World Cup and Prince Harry getting married,

PaulHollywoodsSexGut · 16/09/2018 04:07

Ah!

glintandglide · 16/09/2018 03:56

Oh sorry Paul I was referring to the OP not your link- I hadn’t seen it when I posted Smile

PaulHollywoodsSexGut · 16/09/2018 03:53

The chart shows names chosen by parents in England & Wales each year from 1996 to 2016, based on data from the Office of National Statistics (ONS).

glintandglide · 16/09/2018 03:51

These are Newley registered babies names though aren’t they? So knowing so many only influences the list if they’ve been born in the last 12 months? From looking at Scotland’s there hasn’t been much movement in the top 10 for years really

How do I find out how many people used a name outside of the top 100 in a particular year?
