Seriously considering this, thoughts?

Giles is a great Buffy character which is why it came to mind straight away!

NoSleepTil2030 · 31/08/2018 21:40

Farmer Giles (aka piles...)
Giles Peterson on BBC6 Radio!

I know a young (male) Rowan and like that name a lot Smile

sexnotgender · 31/08/2018 21:29

I love proper people names for animals!

Thank you all for your opinions, I’m 20 weeks tomorrow so we’ve got plenty of time to decide but we’re fairly set on Giles right now.

It's fine.
I don't like it with Francis though. They're too similar.

TroubledLichen · 31/08/2018 19:16

I know a lovely cat called Giles. Also Buffy. And Farmer Giles (a friend actually had a fling with an actual farmer called Giles). So can’t get behind it as a baby name much as I really want to love it.

sexnotgender · 31/08/2018 19:09

Not keen on Guy, it’s a nice enough name but not my favourite.

MeandMoo · 31/08/2018 18:36

Rowan is beautiful! 😍

Maireadd · 31/08/2018 18:07

Not keen, sorry. I like Rowan though.

Guy?

llangennith · 31/08/2018 18:04

Lovely name.

Tallie12 · 31/08/2018 18:04

Makes me think of Giles from Buffy too (Anthony Stewart Head) which is a good thing! Think I prefer Rowan though but I'm a sucker for nature names.

sexnotgender · 31/08/2018 17:59

He was a great character, it’s been so long since I watched it though. It was Anthony Head wasn’t it?

BareBelliedSneetch · 31/08/2018 17:58

Giles in buffy would be a reason for using it!

sexnotgender · 31/08/2018 17:57

I forgot about Giles in Buffy!

OP posts:
KoalasAteMyHomework · 31/08/2018 17:50

I like it but it does remind me of the Buffy character (his first name was Rupert but everyone called him Giles)
If you like it then go for it!

Singlenotsingle · 31/08/2018 17:50

Friends of mine have got ds Giles and dd Rowan

AnyaMoondial · 31/08/2018 17:47

Really like Giles.

steppemum · 31/08/2018 17:44

Its funny, to me Rowan and Giles are SUCH different names, I find it interesting that you like those two

AdaColeman · 31/08/2018 17:42

I really like it, and much prefer it to Rowan.

Cbeebiesrehab · 31/08/2018 17:42

I considered Rowan for my son but was put off it by the influx of little girls being named it. It hadn’t really occurred to me that it was a girls name until looking at naming sites. Coincidentally the name we chose some people also consider unisex🙈

steppemum · 31/08/2018 17:42

I am 50, and for my generation it would have been a no-no as it had an OO-AArgh, Farmer Giles connection.
If we met anyone called Giles it was funny, before the poor bloke had even said anything
A bit, I think, like the connections people make with Sharon and Tracy.

But seeing this thread, I realised that that has passed really, and I can't work out why a perfectly good name like Giles, got so much stick!

sexnotgender · 31/08/2018 17:39

That is a good point Tiger, I’m not sure patience is one of my strong suits either!

TigerDrankAllTheWaterInTheTap · 31/08/2018 17:36

Giles is a good name. Much prefer it to Rowan. I am an impatient person and would find it very irritating to have to explain constantly which sex my baby was, which I imagine happens a lot when the name is used for both boys and girls.

sexnotgender · 31/08/2018 17:33

Thankfully we’re not big in the farming community Grin
Weirdly I love Giles and don’t like Miles Smile

OP posts:
ThroughThickAndThin01 · 31/08/2018 17:30

I really like Miles but not keen on Giles strangely

percheron67 · 31/08/2018 17:29

Love the name.
