I really like the name Luna for a girl, but my boyfriend's friend said it sounded like a stripper's name!
Does it? What do you think?

Yappy not happy!

JustlikeDevon · 31/08/2018 09:39

Name of next doors bloody awful happy dog. It barks, owner tells LUNA and all I can think is TIC.

Sometimesitsmyownfault · 31/08/2018 08:51

The only Lunas I know of are dogs I'm afraid and it is getting more common. But people do call their dogs 'human' names so maybe we should all share?

CarlGrimesMissingEye · 31/08/2018 06:30

I'm going to a young Luna’s birthday party next week. She's lovely, happy and the name really suits her. I like it.

blackjeans · 31/08/2018 06:18

Just makes me think 'looney'/lunatic...

flumpybear · 31/08/2018 06:01

More hippy than stripper

winterhappiness · 31/08/2018 05:39

It's a dogs name imo Confused

Mondschein · 30/08/2018 23:47

It's my oldest daughters name. She is born 2003, a few weeks before the fifth HP book was published.
We are an international family. British, German, Italian and we wanted a name easy to write and spell in all three languages, not to boring and with a nice meaning. Luna works great and she never had problems with her name.

We are dog owners and yes I know a dog named Luna. But I also know Oscars, Elsies, Olivers, Alfies, Mayas... People often use human names for their animals.
I don't know any striper, but so far my daughter plans a different career, although she really enjoys dancing. Wink

C0untDucku1a · 30/08/2018 23:12

Lunatic.

RibbonAurora · 30/08/2018 23:10

I have a cat called Luna - short for Luna-tick (she was covered in ticks and fleas when we found her) - but it's a perfectly good non-stripper people name too.

And it's a Goddess name, Luna is the Roman Moon Goddess though, if you fancied something non-HP or pet related but still Goddess-y and Moon-y, Selene is the Greek Moon Goddess.

Enko · 30/08/2018 22:47

Luna is beautiful and it makes me think Moon.

Katurah · 30/08/2018 22:41

Every other dog I know of is called Luna or Mabel.

missmouse101 · 30/08/2018 22:32

I just think 'loony' when I hear it. Awful!

TiffinBox · 30/08/2018 22:25

I went to school with a Luna, she was really clever and a good egg. Went to university to study Psychology and has done really well for herself.

MikeUniformMike · 30/08/2018 22:11

Looks nice written but the lunatic association would put me off.
Use it for a cat.

BlueSky198080 · 30/08/2018 22:00

Love it!!!

FluffyMcCloud · 30/08/2018 21:56

Not at all a stripper name! Super popular though, I know 4 under 3!

Racecardriver · 30/08/2018 21:43

Nope. Animal name. Could easily picture a race horse or a cow named luna. Nice name though but a little bit too twee for a grown woman.

Ploppymoodypants · 30/08/2018 21:40

Luna is a lovely name. And not at all a stripper name. Does make me think of Harry Potter and also I know a few dogs as and a few cats a pony all called Luna. Also a few little girls too. But all good connotations.

I always think of names such as crystal, Phoenix, Destiny etc as stripper names.
However My friend who is a stripper assures me it’s no longer the 80’s and she and her colleagues are called every day names like Bella, Millie, Eva, Maddy, etc

Joeybee · 30/08/2018 21:33

Don't know what your partner is talking about, is also be concerned he knows what strippers are called!
Luna is a name which has been sky-rocketing up the popularity charts these past few years. I think most people see it as a gentle, slightly hippy-ish but trendy name. There's also the Harry Potter association with it (probably why it's become popular) and that's sweet.

bridgetreilly · 30/08/2018 21:16

Not particularly, but it's still an awful name, imo.

ZebraKid71 · 30/08/2018 20:57

Very Harry Potter. Very dog. Very common in my area.

Not very stripper though.

TatianaLarina · 30/08/2018 20:37

No. And I don’t read Harry Potter.

ReginaPhalange89 · 30/08/2018 20:25

Not a strippers name.

Cat name though. My cats name. Lol
Apparently it's one of the most common cat names ....

Chilver · 30/08/2018 20:01

Not a stripper name imo (and nor is Lexi?!)
