Which one do you prefer? And which one is less popular nowadays? Ela with one 'l' as I would like a Polish spelling of this name. Opinions please!

I thought I'd replied again last night but I can't see my message. I too suggested Mila as it has elements of Maya and Ela and I love that name. But I also like Maya, reminds me of Maia the Bee (cartoon) from when I was little.

I know 2 Polish families, the girls are called Nina and Mila. Both very pretty and easy on the tongue Smile

Sorry I don't like Amaya or Amiyah...

Polish pronunciation would be very similar to English Ella.

Ela is pronounced ee-la not like Ella!!

BlackLambAndGreyFalcon · 31/08/2018 21:25

Is Ela pronounced like "ella" or "ay-la"?

MammaUpNorth · 31/08/2018 20:53

I quite like Maya, but if it is too common, have you thought of similar names like Amaya or Amiyah maybe?

I'd go with international & flower names as these tend to be more multicultural.

I'm 36 weeks now. Today I suggested some more names to him Ida, Iga and Inez and obviously he said no as these are so weird for him - these are Polish.
ELA would be pronounced like Ella and I know now how popular it is and wouldn't choose this one. Maya being so common nowadays is a no too.
Melisa would be pronounced the same as Melissa but I don't really like this name

I like Maya. I hadn't heard of Ela before but it sounds pretty. I hadn't heard of Melisa either but already really liked Melissa and assume they're both pronounced the same way.

I agree with your husband's veto of Lena.

Thistles24 · 31/08/2018 15:14

How many weeks do you have left? DH and I battled for 37 weeks of my pregnancy, I had a list of about 30 I’d have been happy with, he said no to all of them and had about 3 (terrible names) that he wanted. I didn’t budge and just last week I have him a narrowed down list of 10 names and he decided he likes 3 of them and would be happy to use themHmm Try holding your nerve and see if he changes his mind!

mumtomj · 31/08/2018 11:06

Amelie ( A melie) | Kamila ( Ka mila)

awuszka · 31/08/2018 10:47

I would prefer Lena but again my husband already voted no to Lena

He is Turkish and he likes Turkish names: Melisa, Ceyda (it's pronounced like Jeyda), Aylin, Sara, lately he is very fond of Kamelia.

Lenka?

cushioncovers · 31/08/2018 10:37

Love Maya but yes it's become very popular

Quangot · 31/08/2018 10:26

Those were just examples... there are heaps of names Ela could be nickname for.

What names does your husband like?

awuszka · 31/08/2018 10:23

Sorry I don't like any of those three... I like Bianka but my husband doesn't. The problem is the name i like he doesn't and what he likes I don't.

Quangot · 31/08/2018 10:13

I prefer Ela of the two.

How about Ela as nickname for a longer name such as Maristela, Eloise or Raphaela?

megletthesecond · 31/08/2018 07:52

Both are nice but really popular. I know a few of both.

awuszka · 31/08/2018 07:50

Thanks for all your responses. I think I will end up without a name at all...

Autocorrected sorry!!! Ela is ok.

squirrelnutkins1 · 30/08/2018 23:24

Maya/mia/Mya all waaaaay too popular. Lea is ok.

YerAuntFanny · 30/08/2018 23:08

We live in an area which has a relatively large Polish presence, Maya/Mia is very popular here!
